{"id":140043,"date":"2025-09-16T00:49:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T00:49:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/140043\/"},"modified":"2025-09-16T00:49:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T00:49:07","slug":"heres-where-the-aurora-could-appear-on-monday-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/140043\/","title":{"rendered":"Here\u2019s Where The Aurora Could Appear on Monday Night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Topline<\/p>\n<p>The northern lights have a moderate chance of appearing in the skies above the northern U.S. on Monday, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, after effects of a geomagnetic storm impacted the Earth.<\/p>\n<p>Monday\u2019s forecast comes after NOAA recorded a G3 \u201cstrong\u201d geomagnetic storm Sunday night.<\/p>\n<p>Getty ImagesKey Facts<\/p>\n<p>NOAA forecasters predict a Kp index of five out of nine, meaning the aurora could appear \u201cbrighter\u201d with more \u201cmotions and formations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Earth saw a strong geomagnetic storm Sunday night, NOAA reported, reaching a G3 (on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/noaa-scales-explanation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"color-link\" title=\"https:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/noaa-scales-explanation\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.swpc.noaa.gov\/noaa-scales-explanation\" aria-label=\"scale\">scale<\/a> of 5) due to the impact of solar winds escaping from a cooler, dense region of the Sun.<\/p>\n<p>Which States Could See The Aurora?<\/p>\n<p>The northern states along the border of Canada could all potentially see the aurora Monday night, according to NOAA, with all of North Dakota, Minnesota above the \u201cview line\u201d NOAA estimates as the southern cutoff point for being able to see the lights. Effectively all of Alaska, all but the southernmost part of Wisconsin and northern Michigan are above the view line. Much of Washington, Montana and South Dakota could also see the lights, according to NOAA, along with some northern parts of Idaho, Wyoming and Iowa. On the East Coast, northern portions of Upstate New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine could all also see the aurora. <\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s The Best Way To View The Northern Lights?<\/p>\n<p>Experts at NOAA recommend viewers move closer to Earth\u2019s magnetic north pole to get the best potential sights.
