Emma Raducanu’s recent form has seen her rise to world No. 33 in the WTA rankings.<\/a> The jump is a welcome boost for the British tennis star who has battled injuries<\/a> and inconsistent performances in recent years.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old shot to stardom after winning the US Open title in 2021 <\/a>as a teenage qualifier. Last month at Flushing Meadows,<\/a> she beat both Ena Shibahara and Janice Tjen before being ousted by world No. 10 Elena Rybakina<\/a> in a swift 62-minute third-round encounter.<\/p>\n

Despite this, her performance in New York further cemented her upward trajectory in the women’s tennis world<\/a> rankings, climbing from No. 39 at the tournament’s start.<\/p>\n

Following a two-spot climb last week, Raducanu<\/a> has once again ascended one place to become world No. 33 – a significant leap from her No. 60 ranking at the year’s start. This is her highest ranking since July 2022, when she reached a career-best 10th in the world.<\/p>\n

Raducanu, set to face Jaqueline Cristian at the Korea Open on Tuesday, has made remarkable progress since three years ago when her defence of the US Open title ended abruptly <\/a>with a straight-sets defeat by Alize Cornet.<\/p>\n

That year, her continuous struggles saw her plummet down the rankings to 83rd. Fellow British player, Sonay Kartal, is now experiencing the same frustration that Raducanu once felt.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old Brighton-born star has seen her world ranking plummet an astonishing 29 places this week, from No. 53 to 82. This follows a crushing defeat in the first round of the US Open in August, where she lost 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 to Brazilian 18th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia.<\/p>\n

She confessed to feeling “helpless” as she was disappointingly knocked out, having suffered with debilitating cramp, something that was new to the young Brit.<\/p>\n

“It was tough. I’ve never lost a match from cramp before, ever. It was a little bit odd for me,” admitted Kartal, who was making her New York main-draw debut.<\/p>\n

When asked how cramps affected her, she added: “Where wasn’t I feeling it? Calves, quads, hamstrings and my fingers on the racquet.”<\/p>\n

Earlier that month, Kartal was knocked out in the round of 32 at Tennis in the Land by Solana Sierra. Prior to that, she suffered a round of 16 defeat at Wimbledon in two sets to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.<\/p>\n
