The station serves as a unique platform for research in fields ranging from physics to human health.<\/p>\n<p>Even though they&#8217;re far from home, astronauts on the ISS still have normal routines \u2014 including getting regular <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/international-space-station\/haircut-on-high-getting-a-trim-in-space-space-picture-of-the-day-for-april-17-2025\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/international-space-station\/haircut-on-high-getting-a-trim-in-space-space-picture-of-the-day-for-april-17-2025\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">haircuts. <\/a><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-5ec28b19-106d-46ec-97fc-1e5680d2aeaa\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/>What is it?<a id=\"elk-seasonal\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"b70aae2c-ee29-4a78-8d59-5773d52cde6e-0\">Living aboard the ISS means living in <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/microgravity-vision-effects-astronauts\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/microgravity-vision-effects-astronauts\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">microgravity<\/a>, a state where everything is in continuous free fall. To astronauts, this feels like weightlessness, making everything just a bit more complicated, including basic hygiene.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p>There are no <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/29610-showering-in-space-astronaut-video.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/29610-showering-in-space-astronaut-video.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">showers<\/a> on the orbital lab. Instead, astronauts take a sort of &#8220;sponge bath&#8221; with no-rinse shampoo. This means regular haircuts are essential for multiple reasons.
