{"id":142128,"date":"2025-09-16T22:37:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T22:37:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/142128\/"},"modified":"2025-09-16T22:37:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T22:37:10","slug":"scottish-hospital-trials-tech-which-can-see-and-treat-lung-cancer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/142128\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottish hospital trials tech which can &#8216;see and treat&#8217; lung cancer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  A clinical trial of the innovative technology behind the treatment has begun at the Royal Infirmary of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/local-news\/edinburgh-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Edinburgh<\/a>, where up to 40 people will be encouraged to take part. \u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The first patient has already been recruited for the trial, which is being run through a partnership with the University of Edinburgh, NHS Lothian and the treatment\u2019s developer Prothea Technologies.\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Lung cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK, and nine out of ten patients do not survive more than ten years.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Currently, patients with suspected early-stage lung cancer undergo screening tests with follow-up scans and biopsies of suspicious tissue.
