There\u2019s nothing Britain loves more than a trip down memory lane.<\/p>\n

So, 90s lovers and culture vultures are in luck as BBC<\/a> Two has confirmed one of its hit nostalgic documentaries, Boybands Forever,<\/a> is coming back with the sequel we\u2019ve all been waiting for \u2013 Girlbands Forever.<\/p>\n

The original docuseries<\/a>, executive-produced by Louis Theroux<\/a> and his company Mindhouse Productions, shared first-hand accounts of the rise of the 90s boyband from Take That to Westlife to 911 \u2013 and the darker side of that feverpitch fame.<\/p>\n

Jampacked with references from the late 90s and early 00s, this tell-all three-episode series was met with critical acclaim and plenty of fan praise as a vibrant retrospective that got to the heart of the nation\u2019s fascination when it first came out in November 2024. <\/p>\n

Culture writer Joel Golby wrote in the Guardian that it was \u2018a magical piece of TV\u2019, while the official four-star review said it \u2018hits every sweet spot of the modern documentary\u2019 with \u2018excellent interviewees\u2019.<\/p>\n

The Telegraph\u2019s equally glowing review called it a \u2018great trip down memory lane\u2019 and the Evening Standard dubbed it \u2018a very current cautionary tale\u2019.<\/p>\n

Fans had just as much praise for the insightful series, as they shared one one Reddit<\/a> thread.<\/p>\n

\u2018Just watched this and it\u2019s so good. They got a lot of the managers as well and were very fair,\u2019 user DSQ wrote at the time and SilyLavage called it a \u2018fantastic documentary.<\/p>\n

With the documentary boasting talents such as Robbie Williams<\/a>, Brian McFadden, Simon Cowell<\/a> and Louis Walsh<\/a> in the line-up, we\u2019re sure Girlbands Forever is set to be just as comprehensive.<\/p>\n

The series will also feature in-depth interviews with Heidi Range (Sugababes), Kelle Bryan (Eternal), Kerry Katona (Atomic Kitten), Melanie Blatt (All Saints), and Su-Elise Nash (Mis-Teeq).<\/p>\n

As well as huge names in the music industry such as Andy McCluskey, Clara Amfo, Darcus Beese OBE, Lucie Cave, MNEK, Nicki Chapman, Pete Tong, Pete Waterman, Scott Mills and Tulisa.<\/p>\n

Celebrating the return of the show, acclaimed documentary-maker Theroux teased what to expect for the female iteration.<\/p>\n

The Bafta winner said in a statement: \u2018I couldn\u2019t be more thrilled to be part of making this wonderful series. I well remember when the Spice Girls<\/a>, Eternal and All Saints burst on the scene in the 90s.<\/p>\n

\u2018 It was a special time in pop music and British culture generally. Then in their wake came a parade of girl bands, made up of girls who were all in different ways beautiful, talented and often very funny. <\/p>\n

\u2018Going back and rediscovering all that music and those videos and the interviews they did has been an absolute pleasure. <\/p>\n

\u2018There was pain behind the music, too, and as is so often the case there was price to be paid for that level of young fame. But mainly we wanted this to be a celebration of a time of very special music and talent.\u2019<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Jonathan Rothery, Head of BBC Popular Music TV, added the docuseries \u2018promises a nostalgic trip through that time in pop music history, as well as an exploration into the truth of being a young woman thrust into the spotlight, the lived experiences and the lessons learnt.\u2019<\/p>\n

There is currently no release date for Girlbands Forever. Boybands Forever is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.<\/p>\n
