First held in 1921, the Road World Championships were in Switzerland last year and Great Britain in 2023.<\/p>\n

Rwanda will become the first African nation to host the Road World Championships this month.<\/p>\n

Eritrean sprinter Biniam Girmay<\/a>, winner of the green jersey at last year\u2019s Tour de France, will be among the leading riders, along with three-time Tour de France champion Tadej Pogacar<\/a>.All the action from the eight-day event will be live on TNT Sports and discovery+<\/a>. When are the 2025 UCI Road World Championships?<\/p>\n

The UCI Road World Championships take place from September 21-28.<\/p>\n

There will be 13 separate events held over eight days of competition, all taking place in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.<\/p>\n

The winners of each event are crowned world champions and can wear the rainbow jersey when they compete in the same discipline the following season.<\/p>\n

How to watch the 2025 UCI Road World Championships<\/p>\n

All the races from the 2025 UCI Road World Championships will be live on TNT Sports and discovery+<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Who is riding at the 2025 UCI Road World Championships?<\/p>\n

After a season of dominance, Tadej Pogacar is the strong favourite to defend his title in the men\u2019s road race.<\/p>\n

A hilly route that features 5,475m of climbing over 267.5km should suit the Slovenian, who has been back in action in Montreal<\/a> following his third Tour de France win earlier in the summer.<\/p>\n

“I want to peak for the World Championships,” said Pogacar last week. “That’s the main goal for this final stretch of the season. I also want to use these races as good training and hope I’ll be ready.”<\/p>\n

Great Britain\u2019s Tom Pidcock will be among Pogacar\u2019s rivals, fresh off his third-place finish at La Vuelta<\/a>, along with Remco Evenepoel, who will lead Belgium in the absence of Wout van Aert.<\/p>\n

Evenepoel has won the men\u2019s time trial for the last two years and should start as the favourite again on the 40.6km course, which includes 680m of climbing and a cobbled section.<\/p>\n

Pogacar will be challenging Evenepoel in the time trial while Italy\u2019s Filippo Ganna has opted against competing.<\/p>\n

Lotte Kopecky has opted not to defend her title in the women\u2019s road race but Demi Vollering leads a strong-looking Dutch team that also includes Anna van der Breggen and Marianne Vos.<\/p>\n

Pauline Ferrand-Prevot has enjoyed a strong season, capped by her Tour de France Femmes win, and will have her sights on more success.<\/p>\n

Great Britain have not entered a rider in the women\u2019s road race but do have Anna Henderson, winner of the silver medal in the time trial at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, in the time trial.<\/p>\n

Vollering is also on the entry list along with USA\u2019s Chloe Dygert but Australia’s Grace Brown will not be back to defend her title after retiring last year.<\/p>\n
