Liverpool will be without two regular first-team squad members for Atletico Madrid\u2019s visit in the Champions League<\/a>, but for two different reasons.<\/p>\n

Arne Slot<\/a> will see his side kick off their Champions League<\/a> campaign against Diego Simeone\u2019s men at Anfield on Wednesday, and the latter is counting his absences.<\/p>\n

Julian Alvarez did not travel to Merseyside, nor did centre-back Jose Maria Gimenez, midfielder Johnny Cardoso, forward Thiago Almada and winger Alex Baena.<\/p>\n

As for Liverpool, this is who they are missing for the first match of the league phase:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Jones will not be available for the second game running due to the injury he sustained against Arsenal<\/a> before the international break, but he is due back in training on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe will train with the team tomorrow, so hopefully he\u2019s able to be in the squad on Saturday, but not for tomorrow,\u201d Slot told reporters of his No. 17.<\/p>\n

As for Chiesa, he was omitted from Liverpool\u2019s Champions League<\/a> squad and, thus, is not eligible to be named in the matchday squad despite being fit to play.<\/p>\n

Jayden Danns<\/a> trained with the first team on Tuesday and will be anticipated to take a place on the bench instead of playing in the UEFA Youth League earlier in the day.<\/p>\n

Stefan Bajcetic<\/a> is still working his way back from a hamstring injury with individual training and, therefore, will remain out of contention. <\/p>\n

As for any possible team news hints, Slot did not rule out handing Alexander Isak<\/a> his first start on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s definitely a chance, because he\u2019s in the squad,\u201d he said when asked the chances of Isak featuring.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen there\u2019s a chance to play. Normally I would say 99.9 percent sure, but I can say it\u2019s 100 percent sure that he will not play 90 minutes, but he\u2019s part of the squad.\u201d<\/p>\n
