K-pop star Cherry has come out as trans.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Also known as Ryujin, Cherry, who gained popularity as part of the group Jwiiver, after appearing on TV show Boys24, told fans the news on Instagram Live on Saturday (19 July)\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t a hobby, it\u2019s my life. I\u2019m trans,\u201d the South Korean singer said. <\/a>\u201cBecause I wasn\u2019t an ordinary person, I couldn\u2019t reveal everything from the start. My goal was to take it slow. I\u2019m just going with my goal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cherry previously responded to a question about her gender and pronouns, by saying she was OK with being referred to as he\/she or they.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fans have praised her for being so open.\u00a0\u201cSo beyond proud of her. My sweet girl,\u201d\u00a0one person wrote on social media.\u00a0Another said: \u201cI am so happy for her. I\u2019ve been following her for a long time and I feel excited every time she expresses herself.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cherry\u2019s announcement follows Bain, a member of K-pop group Just B, revealing in April that he \u201cwas proud to be part of the LGBTQ+ community\u201d.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Thai girl group CGM48\u2019s Pimnara Rumruaymunkong<\/a> (Latin) also came out as gay. Taking to her Instagram story, the singer, whose performs under the name \u2018Latin\u2019, wrote that when asked if she \u201cWLW or bisexual\u201d, replied: \u201c100 per cent wuhluhwuh (WLW)\u201d. The acronym stands for women loving women and can apply to bisexual, lesbian and pansexual women.<\/p>\n

And in June, Katseye star Megan came out as bisexual,<\/a> just weeks after bandmate Lara announced she too was queer, by telling fans she was\u00a0\u201chalf a fruit cake<\/a>\u201d. She\u2019d told family and friends when she was 14.\u00a0<\/p>\n
