The Blade<\/a> movie\u2019s delays resulted in one positive addition to the MCU<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Marvel<\/a> has been trying to get a Blade movie off the ground for several years. The project was initially announced in 2019, at which time it was also revealed that Mahershala Ali<\/a> had been cast as the titular character. While Ali had an uncredited voice cameo in Eternals, the movie has not yet come to fruition and does not have a release date at this time.<\/p>\n

While there\u2019s currently no telling if Blade will ever see the light of day, the delays did have a positive impact on the forthcoming Marvel Zombies<\/a> show.<\/p>\n

How do Blade\u2019s delays impact Marvel Zombies?<\/p>\n

Marvel Television<\/a>\u2019s Brad Winderbaum<\/a> told ComicBook<\/a> that, if it hadn\u2019t been for Blade\u2019s delays, the brand-new Blade Knight character wouldn\u2019t be appearing in Marvel Zombies.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe felt like Blade was gonna be really exciting to put on screen, and we never thought that we would come out before the live-action Blade,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was always designed to be after. But we knew that we\u2019d be in concurrent development. Sometimes when you\u2019re chasing live-action like that, if they pivot, and you don\u2019t pivot in the same way, you get stuck because animation needs a lot more lead time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Blade Knight is an Eric Brooks variant who, in addition to being a human-vampire hybrid, also happens to be a Fist of Khonshu. In traditional Marvel Comics lore, that title primarily belongs to Moon Knight<\/a>, who was previously played by Oscar Isaac in the MCU.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaking him the Fist of Konshu freed us up in a lot of ways, because he became now a new character with lore that we were creating for him, which let us kind of be more free and less tethered to the live action plans,\u201d Winderbaum said.<\/p>\n
