Microsoft has today announced an intriguing update for Xbox players, in another move towards unifying its gaming experience across console, PC and cloud. Rolling out now for Xbox Insiders<\/a>, a new ‘Play History’ tab is being introduced on console and PC that makes it easier to browse your recently played games – whatever device they’ve been played on.<\/p>\n

It looks as though the feature will work as an extension to the row of tiles at the bottom of the current Xbox dashboard. Alongside those tiles will soon sit a ‘Play History’ area that shows more of your recently played games – with even PC and Xbox Cloud Gaming<\/a> titles displayed on console.<\/p>\n

Here’s an (admittedly low quality) example of how this will look on the dashboard, provided by Xbox:<\/p>\n

And here’s how the team describes its new feature:<\/p>\n

“Whether you\u2019re on your console, PC, or a Windows handheld, you can find your play history at the end of the \u201cJump back in\u201d list on the Home screen. While the large tiles highlight games you\u2019ve recently played on your current device, the play history tile shows games you\u2019ve played across any Xbox device, making it easy to pick up where you left off.<\/p>\n

With these updates, Xbox is making it even easier for you to jump into your favorite games, wherever you are, whenever you want.”<\/p>\n

This is quite an interesting update, especially within the context of Xbox becoming a wider Microsoft gaming brand than just the console experience. As you can see in the quote up above, ‘Windows Handheld’ is also mentioned – another obvious nod to the team’s upcoming ROG Xbox Ally device<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the time of posting, this new feature is available to Xbox Insiders across console and PC, and it should then roll out to all Xbox players in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n
