Team Europe emerged victorious last season after Carlos Alcaraz defeated Taylor Fritz<\/a> in the deciding tie, denying Team World a three-peat. <\/p>\n Many tennis fans have voiced their displeasure with the event as a whole, with some arguing it is an unnecessary addition to an already packed calendar. <\/p>\n Former US Open<\/a> champion Andy Roddick<\/a> was one of the many unhappy viewers until 2021, when he completely changed his opinion on the Laver Cup<\/a>. <\/p>\n In an episode of \u2018Served Live\u2019 Roddick said: \u201cI never got to play in Laver Cup. I wish I would have. It is just an amazingly cool format.<\/p>\n \u201cI got to tell you something, though, guys. When it first happened, I was a bit of a Davis Cup homer. I played it all the time.<\/p>\n \u201cI wasn\u2019t a huge believer in this event. I know that\u2019s not what I\u2019m supposed to say on the opening show here at Laver Cup. Then I went to Boston, and I sat with Roger for a little bit, and I understood it. We have to be proactive in this sport.<\/p>\n \u201cStarting an event where it\u2019s basically made by the experience that you\u2019re getting as a TV viewer or a fan over the course of three days is something that hasn\u2019t been done enough in tennis.<\/p>\n \u201cI think that\u2019s the sweet spot that Laver Cup has hit.
