{"id":147338,"date":"2025-09-19T12:14:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-19T12:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/147338\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T12:14:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T12:14:11","slug":"families-call-for-safer-cycle-routes-in-brighton-and-hove","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/147338\/","title":{"rendered":"Families call for safer cycle routes in Brighton and Hove"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The call comes as part of the Kidical Mass campaign, and ahead of the latest Kidical Mass rides in Brighton and Hove, scheduled for Sunday, September 21.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The family-friendly event, which began in 2023, encourages cycling for all ages while calling for safer, connected cycle networks.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Duncan Blinkhorn, from Brighton Bike Hub, said: &#8220;We\u2019re pleased that we&#8217;re one step closer to a new cycle lane along the seafront A259 in Hove.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;However much of Hove is dominated by car traffic, which makes cycling less attractive for families.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Brighton and Hove can be an even better cycling city with continuing investment from the Council.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Due to growing demand, this year\u2019s Kidical Mass will feature two rides, one in Brighton and one in Hove.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Brighton route will include feeder rides from Preston Park (south) at 12pm and The Level at 12.15pm.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Riders will head to Stanmer Park for Apple Harvest Day, arriving at 1pm.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The return journey begins at 3.45pm, heading back to The Level and Preston Park.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Hove ride features four feeder routes: Hove Cemetery (Old Shoreham Road) and Hove Park (south) both at 1.45pm, and Wish Park (east) and Stoneham Park at 2pm.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  These will converge at Hove Beach Park on the seafront, where a large circular ride through Hove will begin at 2.30pm.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Iliana Koutsou from Bricycles said: &#8220;Too many mums and dads don&#8217;t feel comfortable using bicycles on our roads.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Once children are too big for pushchairs, parents have no choice but to use their cars to get around.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Our city can be improved with new cycle lanes, so people have the confidence to swap four wheels for two.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The rides are free, open to all, and marshalled for safety.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  They move at a gentle pace to ensure everyone can keep up.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Children must be accompanied by an adult.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Participants are encouraged to sign up on Eventbrite (Brighton or Hove) to help organisers plan for numbers.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Volunteers are needed for the event.
