{"id":147526,"date":"2025-09-19T14:30:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-19T14:30:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/147526\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T14:30:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T14:30:14","slug":"dangerholms-mind-bending-gravel-bike-weighs-only-7-19kg-but-its-components-are-even-more-interesting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/147526\/","title":{"rendered":"Dangerholm&#8217;s mind-bending gravel bike weighs only 7.19kg \u2013 but its components are even more interesting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dangerholm\u2019s latest project is this incredible Scott Scale RC SL, reimagined as a gravel bike.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Weighing only 7.19kg, it blurs the lines between XC race and gravel bikes, and is dripping in carbon exotica, including new components from Spanish weight-weenie specialist, Darimo.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The build uses 40mm-wide (internal) rims paired with 2.1in tyres, which Dangerholm \u2013 the nom de plume of Gustav Gullholm \u2013 says transforms how the bike rides: \u201cYou probably want much, much wider rims on your gravel bike \u2013 you just don\u2019t know it yet,\u201d he wrote on Instagram, explaining that the combination enabled him to lower tyre pressure without a squirmy feel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Darimo provided several bespoke components to make the project possible. Jack Luke \/ Our Media<\/p>\n<p>Skubiszewski explains the seatpost is not something Darimo intends to bring to market, yet: \u201cWe aren\u2019t going to sell it anytime soon because it is so time-consuming to produce. It\u2019s more a proof of knowledge or concept, unless someone offers us 3 million euros or whatever,\u201d he jokes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Dangerholm-Scott-Scale-RC-SL-gravel-bike-1.jpg\" alt=\"Dangerholm Scott Scale RC SL gravel bike \u2013 cockpit details\" class=\"wp-image-940215\"\/>The cockpit can be fully customised. Jack Luke \/ Our Media<\/p>\n<p>The cockpit is Darimo\u2019s Nexum Drag bar-stem combo, here built with a -12-degree stem.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Like all Darimo bars, it was tailored to Dangerholm\u2019s exact needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst you decide the geometry [of the cockpit] \u2013 the dimensions, the width, the length, the angle and everything,\u201d Skubiszewski explains.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen you tell us your body weight and riding style, and we adapt the carbon layup.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen you choose the aesthetic \u2013 3K, UD or forged carbon, matte or shiny \u2013 and it\u2019s your bespoke bar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Dangerholm-Scott-Scale-RC-SL-gravel-bike-7.jpg\" alt=\"Dangerholm Scott Scale RC SL gravel bike \u2013 cockpit\" class=\"wp-image-940211\"\/>The cockpit has been built specifically for this bike. Jack Luke \/ Our Media<\/p>\n<p>Darimo stresses that the finish is as much about honesty as it is about weight. \u201cThere are some very small imperfections, but we never hide them under a thick layer of paint,\u201d Skubiszewski says. \u201cWhatever product you see with a Darimo sticker is raw carbon with quality fibres that don\u2019t fade under the sun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Dangerholm-Scott-Scale-RC-SL-gravel-bike-10.jpg\" alt=\"Dangerholm Scott Scale RC SL gravel bike \u2013 Darimo crankset\" class=\"wp-image-940207\"\/>The crankset has been in development for two and a half years. Jack Luke \/ Our Media<\/p>\n<p>The bike also provided a showcase for Darimo\u2019s new Sigma crankset, shown here in its final form for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>The pictured crankset is 175mm long and weighs 280g without a chainring \u2013 impressively light, but not the lightest on the market.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Dangerholm-Scott-Scale-RC-SL-gravel-bike-4.jpg\" alt=\"Dangerholm Scott Scale RC SL gravel bike \u2013 crankset detail\" class=\"wp-image-940213\"\/>The cranks will be available in MTB, gravel and road axle widths. Jack Luke \/ Our Media<\/p>\n<p>However, creating the lightest crankset possible was not the aim of the project: \u201cThe aim is not to be the lightest because we can go lighter, but it would be fragile in some situations,\u201d Skubiszewski says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want our customers to fall and not feel it is going to break. We don\u2019t want you to feel fragile when you ride your bike.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Dangerholm-Scott-Scale-RC-SL-gravel-bike-11.jpg\" alt=\"Dangerholm Scott Scale RC SL gravel bike \u2013 crankset detail\" class=\"wp-image-940205\"\/>The alloy sleeve is not bonded to the axle in the traditional sense. Jack Luke \/ Our Media<\/p>\n<p>Darmi\u00e0 Rizo Morant, CEO and founder of Darimo, emphasises that it isn\u2019t a conventional, three-part bonded design \u2013 the crankset is a two-piece design, with the non-driveside arm and axle formed in one piece. This results in a lighter and more robust design, according to Darimo.<\/p>\n<p>The chainring mounting sleeve is not bonded to the axle in the usual sense, where you make two parts and then glue them together: \u201cIn our process, the carbon fibres expand during production and the same resin that forms the carbon also adheres to the aluminium, creating a mechanical bond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He adds that the crank is produced in a single shot: &#8220;We don\u2019t manufacture separate pieces and then join them later. Everything is made together, so if you try to separate it you\u2019ll just end up breaking it. It\u2019s impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Morant says the crankset passed ISO testing, withstanding 100,000 cycles at 280kg of force per side without failure.
