Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has reaffirmed Pakistan\u2019s commitment to a \u201clongstanding\u201d relationship with the United States, stating that \u201cthere is no either-or in our relations with other countries\u201d.<\/p>\n
The DG ISPR expressed these views during an interview, which was aired by Pakistani television channels on Friday. According to television channels, the interview was purportedly given to a German media house.<\/p>\n
During the interview, the military spokesperson was asked about Army Chief Asim Munir\u2019s visits<\/a> to the US and whether they had helped with \u201cwarming up\u201d relations between Islamabad and Washington.<\/p>\n In his response, Lt-Gen Chaudhry appreciated the US and President Trump\u2019s role in mediating<\/a> a ceasefire between India and Pakistan in May after a four-day escalation<\/a>. During the interview, the military spokesperson was asked about Army Chief Asim Munir\u2019s visits to the US and whether they had helped with \u201cwarming up\u201d relations between Islamabad and Washington. #DawnToday<\/a> \u266c original sound – Dawn.com<\/a> <\/p>\n \u201cThere are areas where a lot can be done, there are areas where a lot of engagement can be done,\u201d he said, adding that \u201cPakistan views its relationship with the US as very important.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe don\u2019t think that these relationships have anything to do \u2014 or there is either-or with other countries.\u201d At this point, the interviewer interjected him to mention China, with the DG ISPR continuing \u2014 following a cut in the video \u2014 that \u201cwe, at the same time, have very constructive and strategic relationships with China and other countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n He said that there is a lot of \u201cscope\u201d for collaboration between the US and Pakistan on the matter of counterterrorism.<\/p>\n On that note, he expressed satisfaction over the United States\u2019 recent declaration<\/a> of the Majeed brigade as a terrorist outfit.<\/p>\n Pakistan has proscribed<\/a> the Majeed Brigade \u2014 the terrorist outfit Balochistan Liberation Army\u2019s suicide squad \u2014 as a terrorist entity since July 18, 2024.<\/p>\n On the question of Pakistan\u2019s concerns<\/a> over weapons systems left behind by the US in the wake of its withdrawal<\/a> from Afghanistan, DG ISPR cited the retrieval of US-made weapons from terrorists involved in the Mianwali airbase attack<\/a> on 4 November 2023 as evidence.<\/p>\n He said that \u201cwe share all this data with the Americans,\u201d adding that \u201cthe amount of weapons left behind by the US is huge.\u201d<\/p>\n
