Netflix<\/a> has an “epic” reboot of classic 1970s and 80s TV series Little House on the Prairie in the pipeline that you won’t want to miss \u2013 and it looks like it will very much be its “own” version.<\/p>\n

Like the original, the new show is based on the classic children’s book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder, which were inspired by her upbringing in the American Midwest.<\/p>\n

However, the Netflix revival is touted as a new take on the stories, described as a “reimagining” and “transformed adaptation” for “a 21st-century audience”.<\/p>\n

What to Read Next<\/p>\n

The show will take the form of “part family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West”, with “a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier”, according to the synopsis.<\/p>\n

The story will focus on the “bright, honest, authority-questioning” protagonist Laura Ingalls (played by Lessons in Chemistry’s Alice Halsey<\/a>) and her family.<\/p>\n

The Boys’ Rebecca Sonnenshine is adapting the series alongside acting as showrunner, and has spoken of how important Wilder’s series was to her growing up.<\/p>\n

“I fell deeply in love with these books when I was 5 years old,” she told Tudum<\/a>. “They inspired me to become a writer and a filmmaker, and I am honored and thrilled to be adapting these stories for a new audience.”<\/p>\n

She will executive produce alongside Trip Friendly (whose father Ed was an executive producer on the original TV show), Joy Gorman Wettels (13 Reasons Why), Dana Fox (Wicked) and Susanna Fogel (A Small Light).<\/p>\n

Sarah Adina Smith, who has directed on Lessons in Chemistry and Legion, is on board as the pilot director.<\/p>\n

“Little House on the Prairie has captured the hearts and imaginations of so many fans around the world, and we\u2019re excited to share its enduring themes of hope and optimism with a fresh take on this iconic story,” Netflix’s vice president, Drama Series, Jinny Howe, added.<\/p>\n
