Laurent Mekies has conceded that Red Bull have a \u201cmountain to climb\u201d as they embark on the project of building their own power units from 2026 onwards, with the team boss anticipating a year with \u201ca lot of sleepless nights\u201d ahead.<\/p>\n
Amid the introduction of new technical regulations next season, Red Bull Powertrains \u2013 in partnership with Ford \u2013 will develop the power units used by Red Bull Racing<\/a> and sister outfit Racing Bulls<\/a>.<\/p>\n This marks a switch from current supplier Honda, who will solely provide engines to Aston Martin<\/a> as of 2026.<\/p>\n During the Italian Grand Prix weekend, Mekies<\/a> \u2013 who became Team Principal and CEO at Red Bull in July \u2013 was quizzed on recent comments made by Mercedes<\/a>\u2019 Toto Wolff<\/a> suggesting that the Milton Keynes-based outfit have \u201cMount Everest to climb\u201d in building their own power units for the new regulations<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI think Toto is right by saying it\u2019s an Everest to climb \u2013 that\u2019s what it is,\u201d Mekies responded. \u201cIt\u2019s as crazy as it gets to take the decision to do your own power unit, as Red Bull has done. It’s an unbelievable challenge to be associated with.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s the sort of crazy stuff Red Bull does \u2013 so it\u2019s a good feeling. But we don\u2019t underestimate how crazy it is.<\/p>\n
