At a properly big race, access to the stars is limited. Journalists are pushed to the margins; photographers stake out their shots in advance, hoping that their lenses can tease out enough of the narrative to make it worthwhile. In the context of time trials, that is only amplified: shorter courses, greater focus, and the prospect of razor-thin margins separating victory from defeat.<\/p>\n

Against that backdrop, it\u2019s rare to get a detailed look at what went into a win, tracing the steps from preparation to podium. But courtesy of Escape Collective contributor Kristof Ramon, we have just that. For the duration of the Kigali World Championships, Ramon is embedded with the Belgian Cycling Federation, giving him exclusive access to Remco Evenepoel for one of his big season targets\u00a0\u2013 the World Championships individual time trial.<\/p>\n

As we now know, Evenepoel was at his world-beating best<\/a>, obliterating his rivals on the way to claiming the title for a third consecutive time\u00a0\u2013\u00a01.14\u201d ahead of silver medallist Jay Vine (Australia), and 2.36\u201d ahead of compatriot Ilan van Wilder. To underline Evenepoel\u2019s crushing form, he even overtook Tadej Poga\u010dar on the approach to the finish (Poga\u010dar, one of the pre-race favourites, started 2.30\u201d ahead of his Belgian rival).<\/p>\n

Thanks to Kristof Ramon, we have much more than just a generic action shot or podium photo. Through his lens, we have access to a rare inside view of Evenepoel\u2019s big day in Kigali.\u00a0Let’s take a look. <\/p>\n
