After sparking the imagination with the reveal of an intriguing new sign in the city centre<\/a>, two big Newcastle names have followed up with huge news that is really whetting the appetite. Fenwick and Greggs<\/a> are once again teaming up and this time it’s to launch a new pub called The Golden Flake Tavern.<\/p>\n After the pub sign was spotted in Blackett Street<\/a>, the joint venture was announced this Wednesday morning and it is guaranteed to delight steak bake fans and shoppers alike. The collaboration follows the success of previous joint ventures Bistro Greggs at Fenwick<\/a> in 2023 and last year’s pop-up Greggs Champagne Bar which, as previously reported<\/a>, was described as a ‘world’s first’ when it launched<\/a> on the store’s ground floor.<\/p>\n Now they’re breaking new ground again with a pub which is now all set to open in the city centre<\/a> store on Saturday. The Golden Flake – their biggest venture so far – will occupy the former Arthur’s club in Fenwick<\/a>. The first floor former cafe space, which has also hosted pop-up collaborations with Barbour and Fentimans<\/a>, is now transformed into a classic British pub, which will open its doors to customers on Saturday, September 27.<\/p>\n The city centre<\/a>‘s latest boozer, which has local artwork on the wall, is described as the ‘latest must-visit experience’ and marks a first of its kind for both brands. As well as Greggs’ iconic bakes on the menu, the weekly roast is set to be a centrepiece, offering a build-your-own banquet with trimmings including cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings.<\/p>\n It’s not the first foray by the Geordie baker into the pub world. In 2023 Greggs briefly turned its Grainger Street branch into live music bar Fenders Unplugged<\/a> ahead of Sam Fender’s home city shows at St James’ Park. But this is a full-on pub.<\/p>\n Fenwick, which has also just confirmed the return dates<\/a> for its festive treat Santa on the Roof, says the pub’s opening times from this weekend’s launch will be 11am-7pm daily and there even will be weekly quiz nights.
