\n Broome Manor Golf Club in Swindon hosted its annual Captain\u2019s Day in June, raising \u00a36,305 for Parkinson\u2019s UK in tribute to former club member Brian.\n<\/p>\n
\n The event was organised by Swindon resident Chic Carvell, 76, who chose the charity in honour of Brian, who lived with Parkinson\u2019s.\n<\/p>\n
\n Mr Carvell said: “Choosing Parkinson\u2019s UK as the charity for my Captain\u2019s Day at Broome Manor was a \u2018no brainer\u2019.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Brian and I shared many memorable rounds of golf over the years, from Ogbourne Downs to Sunningdale, Wentworth and even Blairgowrie in Scotland.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Although Parkinson\u2019s ultimately prevented him from playing, the day was a chance to honour his memory and continue the camaraderie we shared.”\n<\/p>\n
\n He also reflected on the value of the sport.\n<\/p>\n
\n Mr Carvell said: “Golf is a game played for a lifetime, and it is the perfect physical and social activity.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Broome Manor\u2019s 9-hole course is ideal for those living with Parkinson\u2019s, and I will continue to play in memory of my friend Brian.”\n<\/p>\n
\n The day was sponsored by Mercedes-Benz of Swindon, which donated \u00a3500 and the first prize of AMG golf bags.\n<\/p>\n
\n Other supporters included Deacons, David Howell, and numerous businesses, friends, and family of Brian.\n<\/p>\n
\n A total of 88 golfers took part in a shotgun start pairs competition, followed by a buffet at Fairways Restaurant.\n<\/p>\n
\n Dan Palmer of Mercedes-Benz presented the first prize to the winning pair, whose combined age of 163 earned them the Mercedes-Benz AMG golf club bags.\n<\/p>\n
\n Ruth Wright, community fundraiser at Parkinson\u2019s UK, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Chic, Broome Manor Golf Club, its members and all who supported the Captain\u2019s Golf Day.\n<\/p>\n
\n “The generous donations raised will make a real difference in funding vital research and providing support for people living with Parkinson\u2019s right here in Swindon.\n<\/p>\n
\n “We hope that this fundraising challenge inspires you to get involved with Parkinson\u2019s UK.\n<\/p>\n
\n “There are lots of ways for you to get involved and support us \u2013 from volunteering at an event to campaigning for better services.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Without the generosity of people like you, our work would not be possible.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Parkinson\u2019s is a progressive neurological condition with more than 40 symptoms, including tremors, pain, and anxiety.\n<\/p>\n
\n It affects 166,000 people in the UK, and there is currently no cure.\n<\/p>\n
\n Parkinson\u2019s UK supports people affected by the condition and funds research into better treatments.\n<\/p>\n
