The Bridesmaids star has assembled an A-list supergroup for her upcoming film project<\/p>\n

Spice Girl Melanie C<\/a>, All Saints\u2019 Shaznay Lewis and Pussycat Dolls<\/a> singer Ashley Roberts will join forces with a Hollywood star to create the girlband of dreams. Rebel Wilson<\/a> is behind a new film which sees them form a supergroup.<\/p>\n

It will also feature telly favourite Sheridan Smith<\/a>, who most recently starred in ITV true crime drama I Fought The Law<\/a>. The five-piece will become band Girlfriends for a new blockbuster movie.<\/p>\n

Directed by Bridesmaids star Rebel, she will play a pop diva who\u2019s been kicked out of her own group\u2019s reunion tour and then told she must do community service by the courts. Her character then hatches a comeback by coaching a group of misfit teen girls for a big audition to get signed by a top record label.<\/p>\n

But in typical movie fashion, it doesn’t go to plan. Pushing them too far, she\u2019s forced to face the issue of a toxic music industry and her own problems at the same time.<\/p>\n

Called Girl Group, the comedy has started filming in the UK, reports Deadline. Rebel says it\u2019s the \u201cultimate girl power movie.\u201d \u201cEver since being a part of the Pitch Perfect franchise, I\u2019ve always wanted to create something similar,\u201d she said. \u201cGirl Group is just so fun and full of spirit that\u2019s ready to have you singing and dancing out of the cinema.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rebel will be hoping this project goes smoother than her first foray into directing. The Deb, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, still hasn\u2019t been released as a legal wrangle between the Australian star and the film\u2019s British producers goes on.<\/p>\n

Rebel\u2019s in Sky\u2019s Original Cinema\u2019s Christmas<\/a> film Tinsel Town later this year alongside Kiefer Sutherland and Danny Dyer<\/a>. Sutherland plays Bradley Mack, a failed Hollywood action star who ends up in a small, snow-dusted village to star in the town\u2019s eccentric production of Cinderella. Here, he encounters a colourful cast of oddball locals who slowly come to hold a special place in his heart, including no-nonsense choreographer Jill (Wilson).<\/p>\n

Rebel lived out her pop star dreams on stage at Reading Festival this summer, when she joined The Kooks on stage.<\/a> Fans went wild when Rebel made a surprise appearance and performed with the band.<\/p>\n

Approaching the microphone to rapturous screams, she joked to the audience: \u201cWhat\u2019s up Reading? Seeing as I\u2019m out here, I thought I should sing a classic Kooks song\u2026 so I don\u2019t know about you guys, but I was thinking about Gangsta\u2019s Paradise\u2026\u201d. The band members looked at each other in faux confusion, before firing up an uncanny rendition of the Coolio hit, with Rebel rapping every verse seamlessly.<\/p>\n
