Ultra-thin phones: they\u2019re back, and in a big way. On the heels of Samsung\u2019s Galaxy S25 Edge and the newly-released iPhone Air, Motorola is looking like the next smartphone maker looking to maximize a slim chassis over all else.<\/p>\n
Leaker Evan Blass<\/a> shared a marketing image of the Moto Edge 70, and while that lineup\u2019s name might be nothing new, the look of the phone sure is. As the off-angle profile shot suggests, the Edge 70 appears to be maximizing thinness over all else, while keeping many of the same core elements as its predecessor. As if the device itself wasn\u2019t enough evidence, the tagline \u2014 \u201cImpossibly thin and incredibly tough\u201d \u2014 sure drives the point home.<\/p>\n Honestly, fad-chasing aside, this design looks pretty great, although it\u2019s difficult to really tell how slim this is compared to its predecessor. Largely speaking, this looks like a pretty classic evolution over this year\u2019s Edge 60, right down to the textured back and the inclusion of Moto\u2019s AI Key. The camera module also appears fairly unchanged, utilizing a raised camera bump alongside additionally-raised lenses. Motorola\u2019s also kept the curved side panels typically seen on the Edge series.<\/p>\n Really, it appears like the slimmer chassis doesn\u2019t come from a new frame design, but from slimming down the rest of the device. The 7.9mm Edge 60 wasn\u2019t particularly slim, giving this one plenty of space to improve both its size and weight. Personally, I\u2019m also pretty pleased to see the brand\u2019s partnership with Pantone continuing.<\/p>\n \tAdvertisement – scroll for more content<\/p>\n This is a space that makes plenty of sense for Motorola to compete in. The company\u2019s no stranger to manufacturing impossibly-thin smartphones; neither the Galaxy S25 Edge nor the iPhone Air managed to out-slim the first Moto Z released nearly a decade ago. Obviously, our expectations around smartphones have shifted wildly since then, and considering this leak doesn\u2019t show support for a Moto Mods-type innovation<\/a>, I wouldn\u2019t expect the Edge 70 to be quite as exciting.<\/p>\n It\u2019s not clear when Motorola might be ready to launch the Edge 70; its predecessor just released back in April of this year, but this marketing render looks pretty close to finished.
