The next player out needs no introduction, of course. Rory McIlroy won the Masters this year to complete a career Grand Slam, and has otherwise won the Irish Open this season. <\/p>\n

The 36-year-old is currently ranked second in the PGA rankings, and this\u2019ll be his EIGHTH Ryder Cup. <\/p>\n

<\/a>Fitzpatrick: ‘To be part of something bigger than yourself is eye-opening’<\/p>\n

\u201cI believed in myself, the form I\u2019d shown from May. I wasn’t necessarily thinking i was guaranteed a spot, but I felt I thoroughly deserved to be in the conversation,\u201d Fitzpatrick says on his place in the team. <\/p>\n

There\u2019s yet another question on \u201cwhat Rory means to the team\u201d, which has to be irritating the European players now!<\/p>\n

\u201cHe gets everyone else going around him,\u201d is the positive that Fitzpatrick points out.<\/p>\n

On his 1-7-0 record in the tournament, he adds: \u201c2016 I wasn\u2019t ready for that one, I\u2019ll admit. I can throw that one out the window a little bit. <\/p>\n

\u201c2021 I felt like I deserved more than what I got out of that one, Rome was probably the same thing. It\u2019s frustrating, but all I can do is keep qualifying and giving myself an opportunity to improve the record.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cTo be part of something bigger than yourself is eye-opening. To hopefully have success in it – or even failure \u2013 is what makes it such a special week,\u201d he adds before finishing. <\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone gets involved, I think that\u2019s the best thing about it. We\u2019re all trying to achieve the same thing, and I feel like we have a lot of fun doing it as well,\u201d says Fitzpatrick on the European side. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s that kind of week where special things happen, both good and bad. That adds to the atmosphere, to the whole experience. I feel like it\u2019s such an incredible event to be a part of. <\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, you’ve got to buy into it,\u201d he says on the heckling and the crowds. <\/p>\n

\u201cAgain, it\u2019s what makes this event so fun, so special, it\u2019s the fans. They make this event. It\u2019s a great opportunity for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

After a bit of a delay, Fitzpatrick has sat down ahead of his fourth Ryder Cup. <\/p>\n

\u201cBeing with Team Europe\u201d is his answer to what he looks forward to most ahead of the tournament. <\/p>\n

We\u2019ll see Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick third up. The 31-year-old is currently ranked 29th, but enters the tournament having finished in the top eight at the PGA Championship and The Open this year. <\/p>\n

His career-defining moment came when he won the US Open in 2022. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think I learned i can compete at the top level of golf,\u201d says the Scot regarding his first Ryder Cup appearance last time out. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere are little things I feel I can improve. I think the last two seasons on the PGA Tour have helped me massively. Let the fun begin!\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n

He brushes off a question regarding Trump\u2019s attendance, calling him \u201cjust another spectator\u201d as he evades an in-depth answer. <\/p>\n

<\/a>McIlroy ‘potentially the greatest European golfer of all time’<\/p>\n

\u201cEgos go out the window when you enter that European team room,\u201d says MacIntyre. \u201cIt feels like we\u2019ve got a better bond\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s potentially the greatest European golfer of all time,\u201d he says on Rory McIlroy. <\/p>\n

\u201cI just play golf, the crowd is here to watch at the end of the day. I must say at the opening ceremony there were a lot of European fans! <\/p>\n

\u201cIt is what it is, if we do our jobs well we\u2019ll be happy. We can\u2019t control them, I can control me. We can control what happens in our group,\u201d he says, before adding that it\u2019s \u201cpart of the game\u201d. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a great player and he\u2019s had an amazing year this year,\u201d says Hovland on a potential partnership with Bob MacIntyre. Nevertheless, he doesn\u2019t want to give too much away. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think aggressiveness is probably going to be a good strategy. Play like you\u2019re going to birdie every hole,\u201d he adds on the technique for this week. <\/p>\n

\u201cRome had a lot of holes you could easily win by par, I don\u2019t think that\u2019s going to be the case this week\u201d. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019ll be some comments here and there, they won\u2019t come close to the thoughts I have in my own head!\u201d says Hovland on the potential for the crowd to jeer European players. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll try and make a few birdies, that seems to do the trick,\u201d he adds. <\/p>\n

When asked about McIlroy\u2019s influence on the team, he says: \u201cHow long we got? He\u2019s a great player, very skilled, experienced, but he carries a lot of weight in the team room. He brings out the best of everyone in there.\u201d <\/p>\n

<\/a>Bob MacIntyre to come after Holland<\/p>\n

After Hovland, Robert MacIntyre is up next. The Scot is currently ranked ninth in the PGA rankings. <\/p>\n

He finished second at the US Open this season, and has two tour wins to his name. <\/p>\n
