\n\tThe Schwartz is with the cast of Amazon MGM Studios<\/a>\u2018 forthcoming sequel to Spaceballs<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe studio confirmed Thursday that the feature will see Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman<\/a>, Daphne Zuniga<\/a> and George Wyner reprise their roles from the original film, as will Mel Brooks<\/a>, whose casting was previously announced. Additionally,\u00a0Josh Gad<\/a>, Keke Palmer<\/a>, Lewis Pullman<\/a> and Anthony Carrigan<\/a> will play new characters. <\/p>\n

\n\tJosh Greenbaum is helming the comedy from a script by Gad, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. Producing the film are Brian Grazer<\/a>, Ron Howard<\/a> and Jeb Brody\u00a0for Imagine Entertainment, alongside\u00a0Gad, Brooks, Greenbaum and Kevin Salter.<\/p>\n

\n\tPlot details and the title for the follow-up to the Star Wars<\/a>-spoofing feature have not yet been shared. Production for the Spaceballs sequel is currently underway ahead of a planned theatrical release in 2027.<\/p>\n

\n\tOriginally released by MGM in 1987 \u2014 a decade after George Lucas\u2019 sci-fi classic\u00a0Star Wars\u00a0debuted to become a culture-defining smash \u2014\u00a0Spaceballs\u00a0starred Bill Pullman, Moranis, Zuniga, Wyner and John Candy, as well as a voice role for Joan Rivers as a C-3P0 parody. The film earned $38.1 million ($108 million today) at the box office before becoming a cult favorite.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring summer of 2024, Gad teased the sequel in an Instagram post<\/a>. \u201cJust handed in a film script that I think may be the funniest and best thing I\u2019ve ever worked on and I am so freaking excited,\u201d Gad captioned the post at the time. He added that working with Samit and Hernandez \u201chas been heaven on Earth and many other planets as well. Love you boys!\u201d<\/p>\n
