Laser-focused Bob MacIntyre<\/a> reckons Donald Trump\u2019s just another fan as the fun begins at Bethpage, writes Craig Swan in New York.<\/p>\n The Oban ace is solely concentrated on helping Europe\u2019s driven brothers in their mission to write history with a famous fifth away Ryder Cup<\/a> win over the United States.<\/p>\n Keegan\u2019s Bradley\u2019s hosts will be backed by boisterous home crowds with Trump<\/a> set to make an appearance for Friday\u2019s tee-off<\/a>. The US President owns courses in Aberdeen and Ayrshire and often speaks warmly about his Scottish heritage.<\/p>\n But MacIntyre is thinking of nothing other than the task in hand as, when asked how it would feel to have Trump there in person watching on day one, he said: \u201cI just play golf. I\u2019m not bright enough, for one, to be worrying about politics.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m worrying more about what goes on this week on the golf course. As a European, we\u2019ve got a job to do. Try and compete as hard as we can and, hopefully, win the Ryder Cup.\u201d<\/p>\n Pushed on whether or not he\u2019d find Trump\u2019s attendance a distraction, MacIntyre replied with a smile: \u201cIt\u2019s just another spectator.\u201d<\/p>\n The Scottish ace has tunnel vision ahead of the crunch. Home fans are likely to target the Euro players with heavy abuse, but MacIntyre said: \u201cJust go do our job. We can\u2019t control them. I can control me. I can control what happens within our group.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, yeah, I\u2019ve heard a few things before. I\u2019ll hear a few things this week. But I suppose it\u2019s part of the game.<\/p>\n \u201cThe crowds are here to watch us at the end of the day, whether they are for you or against you.<\/p>\n \u201cI must say at that Opening Ceremony, there were a lot of European fans. And, look, it\u2019s going to be what it is and my job is to go and play good golf, same as the rest of the European guys. And if we do our jobs well, then we\u2019ll be happy.\u201d<\/p>\n Luke Donald has used messaging this week to tell his team it\u2019s their time to emulate the heroes of 1987, 1995, 2004 and 2012.<\/p>\n MacIntyre can follow countryman Gordon Brand Jnr, Ken Brown, Paul Lawrie, Sandy Lyle, Colin Montgomerier and Paul Lawrie in securing a cherishing road success and he said: \u201cWe\u2019ve talked about a lot of things this week and I just think what an opportunity we\u2019ve got as a team to do something special, to do something that will go down in history.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s three long days of golf. If we just control what we can control, we\u2019ll be just fine. There\u2019s so much trust going into every part of the week, every part of the team from the players to the vices, to caddies, to partners, to backroom staff, everything. There\u2019s no stone unturned.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I went in Rome, I didn\u2019t know what to expect. But I\u2019ve come in here knowing what to expect. The minute you walk in that team room, it\u2019s as though you\u2019ve known each other since you were young kids.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve played team sports all my life and it\u2019s the same feeling that you get on a bus trip home from a shinty match as you get when you walk in that team room. There\u2019s a real family feel. A real togetherness. We\u2019re on one mission.<\/p>\n \u201cAt the end of the day now, it\u2019s about go out there and perform. I feel like if we do that well, we\u2019re going to be happy at the end of the week. Yeah, let the fun begin.\u201d<\/p>\n MacIntyre could have a big role having been a rookie last time in Italy and he said: \u201cI think my comfort levels within the team has changed. Last time, obviously, I was playing mainly on the European Tour. You\u2019re stepping into a room of guys like Rory [McIlroy], Jon [Rahm], Rosey [Justin Rose]. But thankfully egos go out the window when you go into that European team room. Everyone comes together.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m a lot more comfortable. It was a little bit daunting last time. They made you feel welcome then. Now it feels like we\u2019ve got a better bond.<\/p>\n \u201cI learned that I can compete at the top level. I learned so much from equipment side of it. I changed pretty much all my equipment since Rome and I feel like my game has progressed.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s still little things that I feel like I can improve. But I just learned that I can compete at that level. I had a great partner in Rosey at the last one. The last two seasons on the PGA Tour have helped me massively to be on this team and to be where I am in the world of golf.\u201d<\/p>\n Superstar Rory McIlroy spearheads the unit as World No.2 and MacIntyre said: \u201cHe\u2019s a leader. He\u2019s potentially the greatest European golfer of all time. I mean, these things speak for themselves.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve looked up to him since I was young and I\u2019ve got no problem walking behind Rory McIlroy if he\u2019s leading the charge.
