Lady Muriel Byford, widow of the former President and Chair of the Club in the 1990s, died this month peacefully at her home in Pannal, aged 94.<\/p>\n
Muriel was known to many members of the club for her warmth, kindness and ardent support for the club over many years.<\/p>\n
She first came to Headingley with her father to see a match in the late 1930s.<\/p>\n
She and her husband, Lawry, did much of their early courting in the late 1940s watching Yorkshire cricket at Headingley and Bradford.<\/p>\n
When Sir Lawrence became President of the club in 1990, taking over from Sir Leonard Hutton, he and his wife Muriel were a constant presence at matches throughout that decade.<\/p>\n
Muriel\u2019s son, Mark Byford, a former Head of the BBC in Yorkshire, said: \u2018My Mum adored cricket and was a huge supporter of the cricket club. Right up to her death she was still coming to Headingley.
