For others, it&#8217;s about finding a healthy balance between staying disciplined and letting yourself indulge in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bhg.com\/recipes\/healthy\/snacks\/20-sweet-snacks-for-50-calories-or-less\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sweet treat<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_3-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Cody Rigsby, professional fitness coach for Peloton, defines wellness as making sure you feel your best physically, mentally, and socially every day. In a recent partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kashi.com\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kashi<\/a>, a protein- and fiber-rich cereal brand, Cody aims to challenge fads and encourage healthy, balanced lifestyles.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_5-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> &#8220;[I&#8217;m] just trying to debunk that mindset that what you put in your body, the way that you move is this sort of punishment, or a thing that you&#8217;re forced to do,&#8221; he says. For him, wellness includes spending time with loved ones, <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link-ai\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bhg.com\/decorating\/lessons\/basics\/home-decorating-ideas-to-create-a-soothing-environment\/\" link-destination-recommendation-ai=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">creating a relaxing environment<\/a> at home, and eating filling snacks that pack in protein.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_7-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> &#8220;I hope that people, when looking for their wellness routine, don&#8217;t see it as a task or thing that they have to do, but more so an opportunity to get to know themselves,&#8221; Rigsby says. &#8220;To recognize that you&#8217;re resilient and powerful and strong, and that discipline in itself really builds who you are and creates that character.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_9-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> In addition to shifting your mindset about wellness, Rigsby gave BHG three more tips to consider when incorporating wellness habits into your everyday life.<\/p>\n<p>  1. What You Snack On Matters  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_14-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Rigsby says one of the most important ways to feel healthy is to nourish your body with <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link-ai\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bhg.com\/best-high-protein-dinner-recipes-11693582\" link-destination-recommendation-ai=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">protein-dense foods<\/a>. Don&#8217;t worry\u2014this doesn&#8217;t mean only drinking protein shakes and eating red meat for every meal.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_16-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> &#8220;If you can prioritize your protein intake, you&#8217;re gonna feel really satiated, and you&#8217;re not gonna be grabbing for junk or the filler food,&#8221; he says.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_18-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Rigsby&#8217;s go-to snacks are nutritious cereal (his favorite is Kashi Go&#8217;s Honey Almond Flax Crunch), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bhg.com\/editors-favorite-cottage-cheese-recipes-8725150https:\/\/www.bhg.com\/editors-favorite-cottage-cheese-recipes-8725150\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cottage cheese<\/a> with Lowry&#8217;s seasoning salt and pepper, and turkey sandwiches.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_20-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> &#8220;It&#8217;s got a lot of protein,&#8221; he says of the latter. &#8220;You&#8217;ve got good carbs in there, and you might throw some lettuce and tomato on there if you have it, but it&#8217;s a quick, easy, protein-filled snack.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>  2. Small Changes Add Up  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_27-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> According to Rigsby, wellness isn&#8217;t all about making dramatic changes to your lifestyle\u2014it&#8217;s about making <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link-ai\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bhg.com\/health-editors-resolution-tips-8769861\" link-destination-recommendation-ai=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">small changes in your daily routines<\/a>. For example, instead of immediately reaching for coffee or an energy drink when you wake up, he starts every day off with a glass of water to hydrate and cleanse his palette. Rigsby also says showering and getting ready every morning helps him feel more put together and productive.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_29-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> The fitness instructor also advocates for meditating, even if it&#8217;s for a few minutes. &#8220;You know, I&#8217;m trying to get back into my meditation routine, and sometimes it can feel daunting,&#8221; he says. &#8220;I just set my little timer on my phone for five minutes, and I sit there, and I breathe, and that really gives me some clarity.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>  3. Wellness Isn&#8217;t Only Working Out  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_32-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> To lead a balanced lifestyle, Rigsby makes sure his wellness routine isn&#8217;t only working out; it includes filling his cup socially, too. He says that while it&#8217;s often overlooked compared to exercising and eating healthy foods, spending time with loved ones is an important way to practice wellness.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_34-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> &#8220;Connecting with friends or connecting with people that I care about to give me that little spark of joy throughout the week and the day, that&#8217;s important as well,&#8221; he says.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_36-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Rigsby also encourages simple acts like taking a shower at the end of the day to &#8220;de-funk,&#8221; spending an hour off screens every night, and playing music to set the tone in his home.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_38-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> &#8220;I don&#8217;t need too much, but I do like that little pause at the end of my day of just <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link-ai\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bhg.com\/mel-robbins-phone-strategy-11786827\" link-destination-recommendation-ai=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">disconnecting from my phone<\/a> and being with myself.
