Business and branding strategist Maya Elious offers a unique perspective on the intention of launching a business.<\/p>\n
Elious founded Built To Impact, a coaching company based in the Atlanta metropolitan area that launched in 2014. Built To Impact assists women coaches, consultants, and service-based entrepreneurs<\/a> who are scaling businesses to profitability<\/a>\u00a0in the six figures and beyond,\u00a0according to<\/a> information shared on her LinkedIn. Elious noted her business has attracted many faith-based women. On\u00a0the \u201cBlack Tech Green Money\u201d podcast hosted by AFROTECH\u2122 Brand Manager Will Lucas, Elious shared her take on the narrative keeping entrepreneurs<\/a> from reaching new heights in their wealth-building journey.<\/p>\n \u201cSome of the things that hold us back is this fear of being greedy. This fear of seeming like, \u2018Oh, I\u2019m only doing it for money\u2019\u2026 Starting a business for money is also noble,\u201d she said. \u201cKnowing how to put food on the table is a noble thing. You don\u2019t need to have this deep, purposeful, meaningful thing to start a business. I personally like to run businesses where I feel a sense of purpose in the work that I\u2019m doing, but it\u2019s also purposeful to be able to pay your bills. And so I think we overthink the wealth-building journey and money.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n She continued, \u201cIt\u2019s also important to know that money makes you more of who you already are. I think people think that money is going to change them. It elevates who you already are. So as a generous person, when I make more money, I give more money. As somebody who likes to go on vacations, when I make more money, I go on more vacations\u2026 I think it\u2019s very important to understand what your values are and then understand as I build my wealth,<\/a> the more I get to live my values.
