Team USA<\/a>‘s embarrassing start to the Ryder Cup<\/a> reached a sad new low early on Saturday morning as Bethpage officials attempted to teach fans the words to player chants.<\/p>\n

As the sun rose over Long Island, thousands of spectators packed the grandstands in anticipation ahead of the second day of play – but rather than an organic atmosphere, video from among the fans revealed the truth.<\/p>\n

In a wild scene, the fans – who had each paid $750 or more for the privilege of being on site – were subjected to a bizarre lesson from officials with microphones, who attempted to teach them words to pre-created chants to boost the atmosphere.<\/p>\n

In one video, a woman can be heard saying: ‘Slow down, slow down… you guys all took Adderall this morning. Slow down. One, two, clap, one, two, clap.’<\/p>\n

To the tune of Queen’s We Will Rock You, the fans were then told: ‘Here come the lyrics… Scottie, Scottie, Scheffler!’<\/p>\n

Loud boos then rang around the course as fans began to object to being told how and when to sing the songs.<\/p>\n

‘Alright, hold on’ the official then added, before roping in a man alongside her who appeared to be dressed as one of the Founding Fathers.<\/p>\n

‘We’re going to try this one more time, and if it doesn’t we’re going to try the DeChambeau one,’ the man then said, before more loud boos ensued.<\/p>\n

A few seconds later, the chant was so horribly out of time that fans could be seen covering their eyes.<\/p>\n

When the players did eventually make their way onto the first tee a while later, the chant the fans did eventually sing does not appear to have been one with pre-approved lyrics.<\/p>\n

Instead, the crowd opted for ‘f*** you, Rory’, to which they were met by the blowing of kisses<\/p>\n

Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood went on to win the point for Team Europe in the foursomes<\/p>\n

‘F*** you, Rory’ were the lyrics that the rowdy American fans settled on, and McIlroy then responded by spreading his arms wide and blowing kisses back at them.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The bad blood continued throughout the day, with McIlroy snapping at fans and telling them to ‘shut the f*** up’ during the foursomes, in which he later sealed another point for Team Europe alongside Tommy Fleetwood.<\/p>\n

Heading into the afternoon Four-Balls, Europe led 8.5-3.5 in a remarkably strong first day-and-a-half of the tournament at Bethpage Black.\u00a0<\/p>\n

McIlroy has so far not lost in any of his three completes matches, winning two and tying the third – alongside Shane Lowry in Friday’s Four-Balls.<\/p>\n
