A\ufeff surprise Tim Tam flavour<\/a> has snagged a top award less than two years since it first launched.<\/p>\n

Arnott’s Tim Tam Gluten-Free<\/a> has been awarded the Australian Institute of Food Science & Technology (AIFST) Peter Seale Innovation Award for 2025.<\/p>\n

The award celebrates major Australian agrifood innovation that has proven its market success, a clear case for Tim Tam Gluten-Free, which launched in October 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Arnott’s was recognised for their “bold ambition and technical innovation in developing a gluten-free Tim Tam that replicates the original consumer experience”.<\/p>\n

Tim Tam Gluten-Free was also celebrated for having been “entirely developed and executed in Australia” with “with significant investment” in research and design.<\/p>\n

Arnott’s has claimed a significant portion of the gluten-free savoury and sweet biscuit market, launching gluten free versions of all of their favourites.<\/p>\n

These include gluten-free Tim Tam, Jatz, Scotch Finger, Shortbread Cream, Tee Vee Snacks, Tiny Teddies, Seeded Crackers, and Mint Slice.<\/p>\n

The gluten-free grocery market is now worth an estimated $563m as of 2025, with major brands and supermarkets all vying for their piece of the now lucrative market.<\/p>\n

Although gluten-free items are notoriously expensive and cost more than their non-gluten-free counterparts, the Arnott’s gluten-free range remains competitive.<\/p>\n

A packed of Tim Tam Gluten-Free costs $5.50 this week at Coles for a 150g pack.<\/p>\n

The gluten-free grocery market is now worth an estimated $563m as of 2025. (Nine)<\/p>\n

A standard packet of Tim Tams is marked down to $4.50 for a 200g pack and this same pack costs $6 at Woolworths.<\/p>\n

\ufeffAlthough the $6 price point caused controversy when it was introduced in 2024 amid the cost of living crisis, Arnott’s cited rising global cocoa prices as being among the reasons for the increase.<\/p>\n

Previously, Tim Tams cost $4.50, and some even remember them priced at $2 per pack.<\/p>\n

Tim Tam is an Aussie invention, first launched by Arnott’s in 1964.<\/p>\n

Since the 2000s, Arnott’s has expanded the range to include varieties such as Double Coat, Chewy Caramel, Dark, White, and more recently Strawberry & Cream.<\/p>\n

Arnott’s also launched limited edition runs including their Deluxe range which currently includes Salted Caramel Brownie, Triple Choc, Dark Choc Mint, Cafe Latte and Jatz flavours.<\/p>\n

\ufeffDiscontinued flavours include Tim Tam Tia Maria and Kahlua Mint Slice, with stirred controversy due to their alcohol content.<\/p>\n

The Australian Drug Foundation suggested selling the biscuits in supermarkets was “potentially dangerous” by “normalising” the taste of alcohol for children.<\/p>\n

An Arnott’s spokesperson responded that customers “would need to consume [their] body weight of biscuits every hour to reach a blood-alcohol content of .05”.<\/p>\n

These varieties were also not marketed to children.<\/p>\n

In the past, Arnott’s has collaborated with Australian dessert chef Adriano Zumbo to create Salted Caramel, Choc Brownie and Raspberry White Chocolate. These launched 2014 along with Peanut Butter.<\/p>\n

\ufeffOther defunct varieties include Choc Banana, Toffee Apple, Pineapple and Mango.<\/p>\n

In partnership with Gelato Messina, in Tim Tam\ufeff launched a range of flavours including Vanilla Coconut, Lychee and Black Forest.<\/p>\n

Tim Tam Jatz launched in April 2024.\ufeff<\/p>\n
