{"id":170024,"date":"2025-09-30T08:57:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-30T08:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/170024\/"},"modified":"2025-09-30T08:57:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-30T08:57:07","slug":"tadej-pogacars-tricked-out-colnago-y1rs-for-the-rwanda-world-championships-new-tyres-custom-wheels-and-a-raw-carbon-finish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/170024\/","title":{"rendered":"Tadej Poga\u010dar&#8217;s tricked-out Colnago Y1Rs for the Rwanda World Championships \u2013 new tyres, custom wheels and a raw carbon finish"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a humbling defeat in the men\u2019s elite time trial last Sunday, Tadej Poga\u010dar bounced back to take a stunning solo victory in the road race at the UCI Road World Championships yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The Slovenian star blew the race to pieces with more than 100km to go, with a searing attack on Mont Kigali.<\/p>\n<p>After dispatching the only two riders who could follow him \u2013 his UAE Team Emirates XRG teammates, Juan Ayuso and Isaac del Toro \u2013 soon afterwards, Poga\u010dar soloed to victory to secure his second rainbow jersey.<\/p>\n<p>As at this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/events\/tour-de-france\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tour de France<\/a>, Poga\u010dar opted for Colnago\u2019s Y1Rs aero road bike \u2013 specifically a raw carbon version designed to be as light as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s dig into the bike\u2019s spec, and what changes Poga\u010dar made for the roads of Kigali.<\/p>\n<p>Chasing rainbows<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Tadej-Pogacar_Colango-Y1Rs_image00001-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"Tadej Poga\u010dar's Conago Y1Rs for the 2025 UCI Road World Championships road race\" class=\"wp-image-941502\"\/>Tadej Poga\u010dar&#8217;s Conago Y1Rs for the 2025 UCI Road World Championships road race. Leon Van Bon \/ Colnago<\/p>\n<p>According to Colnago, the Y1Rs was the fastest bike on the market when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/pogacar-colnago-y1rs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">it launched late last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Designed to take full advantage of the latest UCI regulations, it\u2019s said to be up to 20 watts more efficient than the Italian brand\u2019s old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/road-bikes\/colnago-v4rs-dura-ace-di2-review\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">V4Rs all-rounder<\/a> (which Poga\u010dar had been using up to that point).<\/p>\n<p>As with many modern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-aero-road-bike\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">aero road bikes<\/a>, the Y1Rs features a full complement of deep, truncated aerofoil tube shapes.<\/p>\n<p>The Colnago distinguishes itself with a radically offset seat tube design, plus a hinge fork reminiscent of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/time-trial-bikes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">time trial bikes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1708\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Tadej-Pogacar_Colango-Y1Rs_image00007-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"Tadej Poga\u010dar's Conago Y1Rs for the 2025 UCI Road World Championships road race\" class=\"wp-image-941505\"\/>The raw carbon finish helps keep weight to a minimum. Leon Van Bon \/ Colnago<\/p>\n<p>Up front, there\u2019s also an eye-catching one-piece carbon cockpit, with a V-shaped stem and gull-wing handlebars.<\/p>\n<p>This machine, with its raw carbon finish, is clearly designed to get the bike\u2019s weight down to a minimum.<\/p>\n<p>The world champion debuted this weight-weenie Y1Rs build at this year\u2019s Tour, for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/tech\/2025-tour-de-france-stage-13-mountain-time-trial-tech-analysis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">mountain time trial to Peyragudes on stage 13<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Tadej-Pogacar_Colango-Y1Rs_003.jpg\" alt=\"Tadej Poga\u010dar's Conago Y1Rs for the 2025 UCI Road World Championships road race\" class=\"wp-image-941501\"\/>The Colnago club logo appears in subtle locations. David Ramos\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Although the pictures we received from Colnago show a bike set up with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/continental-grand-prix-5000-tt-tdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Continental\u2019s GP5000 TT TR time trial tyres<\/a>, pictures from the race itself show Poga\u010dar opted for the German brand\u2019s new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/tyres\/road-bike-tyres\/continental-archetype-tyre-review\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Archetype tyres<\/a> on the day.<\/p>\n<p>This marks a change from the Tour, where the Slovenian opted for the narrower, 28c TT TR tyres for the majority of the race.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, the Archetype tyres are slightly wider \u2013 only coming in a 30c width. If we had to guess, we suspect this choice may have had something to do with the cobbled climbs that littered the course.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Tadej-Pogacar_Colango-Y1Rs_001.jpg\" alt=\"Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 R9200 groupset on Colnago Y1Rs for the 2025 UCI Road World Championships road race\" class=\"wp-image-941499\"\/>Poga\u010dar was running his preferred Dura-Ace Di2 R9200 groupset with CarbonTi chainrings. Leon Van Bon \/ Colnago<\/p>\n<p>Poga\u010dar ran these on a set of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/enve-bucks-wider-is-better-trend-with-narrower-ses-4-5-pro-wheels-for-pogacar\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ENVE\u2019s latest SES 4.5 Pro wheels<\/a>, with custom decals.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the build was as we\u2019ve come to expect of the world champion\u2019s bike.
