Tommy Fleetwood has revealed what really happened during the heated confrontation between Justin Rose and Bryson DeChambeau at the Ryder Cup.<\/p>\n

Fleetwood, 34, enjoyed a superb tournament at Bethpage Black, going 4-1-0 to help steer Team Europe to a stunning victory on American soil last weekend.<\/p>\n

The English golfer, whose loss to Justin Thomas in his singles match on Sunday marred what would have been a perfect weekend for him individually, was caught in the middle of a fiery altercation between DeChambeau and Rose as tension bubbled to boiling point on the 16th green.<\/p>\n

DeChambeau’s caddie moved directly into Rose’s line of sight while he was preparing to putt, which led to the Englishman telling him to move aside in frustration.<\/p>\n

Fleetwood celebrated as Rose made no mistake with the putt, but the incident sparked a huge row on the walk down to the 17th tee.<\/p>\n

Breaking silence on the altercation five days after the tournament, Fleetwood said:\u00a0 ‘Again, Ryder Cup<\/a>, I thought the situation got blown out of proportion from the minute it happened.<\/p>\n

Fleetwood (left) and Rose went on to beat DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler in fourballs, keeping their composure after the heated row to win what proved a vital point for Team Europe<\/p>\n

‘I think it’s obvious to see on the TV, Justin wanted his space, like he was getting ready to hit and he wanted his space. Could have said it in a nicer way, probably, like he said but an intense moment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘I was right there when he apologised straightaway. At that point, like, it’s done. Really, people get things wrong in the moment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘Justin said I’m sorry. Some people wanted to make it a bigger thing than what it was. You know, so then you hold your ground, and that’s just what happens, really. But yeah, it was blown out of proportion at the time but it was over in a few minutes.’<\/p>\n

While providing fans with an enthralling weekend of golf, the 2025 Ryder Cup will long be remembered for the unruly and abusive behaviour of American fans towards Team Europe, who held on to win 15-13 at Bethpage Black.<\/p>\n

Fleetwood and Rose went on to beat DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler in fourballs, keeping their composure after the heated row to secure what proved a vital point.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Team Europe’s golfers were forced to compose themselves at almost every hole while being jeered, booed and abused by fans \u2014 and in one particularly shocking incident on Sunday, Rory McIlroy<\/a>‘s wife Erica Stoll<\/a> was hit by a beer thrown from the crowd.<\/p>\n

Two-time Team USA captain Tom<\/a> Watson congratulated Europe on their victory on Monday afternoon and admitted he is ‘ashamed’ by the behaviour of fans.<\/p>\n

‘I’d like to congratulate @RyderCupEurope on their victory. Your team play the first few days was sensational,’ he posted on social media platform X, formerly Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

‘More importantly, I’d like to apologize for the rude and mean-spirited behavior from our American crowd at Bethpage.<\/p>\n

‘As a former player, Captain and as an American, I am ashamed of what happened. #RyderCup’\u00a0<\/p>\n
