After a slow start to the season, multiple premiership-winning jockey Codi Jordan believes she is getting back to something like her best form.<\/p>\n
Jordan has ridden a couple of winners at the recent Devonport meetings and will go into Friday\u2019s first night meeting of the season with confidence.<\/p>\n
Jordan has at least seven rides on the eight-race card; a couple of them will be major players in the races they contest.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019d like to think if I can keep Suart\u2019s (Gandy) horse (Don\u2019t Give Up) happy in the first, he\u2019s a bit of a big strong bugger, if he can get it the right way, he flew home at his last start, and I don\u2019t see why he won\u2019t be a top chance.<\/p>\n
\u201cWho\u2019s In Dev (race 2), she\u2019s very green, she\u2019s still learning, but she will appreciate the 1400m, she\u2019s doing everything right, and I don\u2019t think she will mind a bit of give in the track if we do get a bit of rain,\u201d Jordan said.<\/p>\n
With one senior premiership and two apprentice titles to her credit, Jordan calls on that experience when times are a little tough.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose feats are a good thing to remind me of what I\u2019ve done and how far I\u2019ve come. I\u2019ve started off a little bit slower, but after that winner last week, there are a lot more horses to look forward to coming into carnival time, so hopefully things start to pick up.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think confidence is top tier for me and my riding ability. I think having someone like Glenn (Stevenson) supporting me gives me that confidence, and for him to say You’re not riding that bad, just stick it out. Definitely (for me) confidence is a priority.\u201d<\/p>\n
This week marks the start of five consecutive Friday night meetings in Launceston, a part of the season Jordan enjoys.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think that Friday night gives us a bit of weekend freedom, we can have a little bit of a social life, I know it is a late night but you get the chance to do things with friends and family and I think riding trackwork the morning of the meeting is a good thing, it gets your body going, you can go home do some jobs and then get into a night of racing, I think I much prefer it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jordan could get the night season off to a flyer. She also looks to have a winning chance on Novalargo (race 3) and will ride Prix De Turn for Stevenson in race 7, a 1400m BM72.<\/p>\n
Prix De Turn, now a 7yo, has won just two races, but one of those was the $750,000 Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes at Moonee Valley in 2022. At his only run in Tasmania, he finished down the track in an Open Hcp in Hobart on 31 August.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis horse has a lot of ability, but I think his mind is elsewhere. He\u2019s obviously come down to Tassie, he ran ok first-up, we didn\u2019t expect a lot, he\u2019s had a bit of freshen up now, I think he will appreciate Launceston, if he wants to do it he can, but he might have his head elsewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n
A fine day with a top of 19 degrees is forecast for Launceston on Friday, the rail is in the true position, and the first event is scheduled for 18:00.<\/p>\n
My best bet is Don\u2019t Give Up for Codi in the first, and Crack The Shutters, despite her wide draw in race 4. She is lightly raced, was super impressive at the trials last week, and her trainer, Stuart Gandy, has a big opinion of the filly.<\/p>\n
