This was on full show at his latest tournament in Tokyo, with Alcaraz beating Taylor Fritz in the final<\/a> to win his eighth title of the 2025 season.<\/p>\n After watching Alcaraz<\/a> win his 24th career title, a multiple-time Grand Slam champion has now admitted he got something wrong about the Spaniard.<\/p>\n Alcaraz has now won all of his last three consecutive singles tournaments, with the world number one only losing seven matches all year.<\/p>\n When speaking about Alcaraz\u2019s success in 2025, nine-time Grand Slam doubles champion and former world number one John Fitzgerald admitted that he did not think that the Murcian would ever be able to produce such consistency.<\/p>\n \u201cThe flair that Alcaraz has is extraordinary,\u201d Fitzgerald said on the Australian Open tennis podcast. \u201cI thought it would hold him back a little bit in big matches because he would make too many mistakes.<\/p>\n \u201cBut now, just as you said, he has cut out a lot of those errors. He has still been able to use his flair and the variety that he has got, but he is not making mistakes. It is working all the time.<\/p>\n \u201cAll that gives me joy as a tennis admirer and someone who cares about the sport, but what I really like at the end of the day is how much both he and [Jannik] Sinner both respect the sport. I love that. Therefore they are going to be good for the sport for a long period of time.\u201d<\/p>\n John Fitzgerald gives his verdict on Carlos Alcaraz withdrawing from the Shanghai Masters<\/p>\n Despite winning the Japan Open<\/a> earlier this week, Alcaraz did have some injury scares<\/a> throughout his time in Tokyo and has since withdrawn from the Shanghai Masters<\/a> to deal with those physical issues.<\/p>\n When speaking about that decision, Fitzgerald suggested that he thought Alcaraz had made the right decision when looking at his long-term future.<\/p>\n \u201cIf his body is not right it would be,\u201d responded Fitzgerald. \u201cI\u2019m not across exactly how he is feeling right now. It\u2019s a long season.
