In the run up to the \u2018October Omnishambles\u2019 budget Labour ministers are changing their definition of \u201cworking people\u201d again. Here we go\u2026<\/p>\n
Roads minister Lilian Greenwood was asked on Sky News about Heidi Alexander\u2019s comments on tax on Sunday in which her boss said:\u201cWe made a commitment in our manifesto not to be putting up taxes on people on modest incomes, working people. We have stuck to that.\u201d Greenwood attempted to clarify:<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, I think it means people who are kind of around average incomes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked to specify a figure Greenwood could not:<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t tell you exactly what the transport secretary had in her mind when she said that, but our promise when we came in is that we wouldn\u2019t hit working people with increases in employee national insurance, in income tax or VAT. And we\u2019ve absolutely stuck to those promises\u2026 We\u2019ve always said that we think those who\u2019ve got the broadest shoulders should bear the greatest burden.\u201d<\/p>\n
