Cardiff RFC’s Super Rygbi Cymru clash against Ebbw Vale has been postponed after Storm Amy destroyed a set of posts at the Arms Park overnight.<\/p>\n
Strong winds and heavy rain battered much of the country on Friday into Saturday morning, snapping the posts at the iconic venue. You can follow hour-by-hour updates on Storm Amy here.<\/a><\/p>\n A statement from Cardiff<\/a> RFC on Saturday morning said: “Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances caused by last night’s stormy weather<\/a> our match today against Ebbw Vale<\/a> will be postponed until a later date.”<\/p>\n The weather is expected to effect a number of lower league matches on Saturday, while two top flight URC fixtures have already fallen victim. After Edinburgh v Ulster was postponed on Friday, the Scarlets<\/a> match with Connacht was called off just before midnight after the Welsh team endured a nightmare attempted trip to Ireland.<\/a><\/p>\n The team’s plane had to abort multiple landings in Dublin before being diverted to Manchester Airport where they spent more than five hours stuck on the runway.<\/p>\n Cardiff Rugby’s URC match in Munster remains on later on Saturday.<\/p>\n A yellow warning for strong winds was issued for 10 parts of Wales and came into force at 3pm on Friday. Travel disruption is expected, with The Severn Bridge closed in both directions due to strong winds on Friday evening, Road closures are also in place in locations across Wales. Flood alerts were also put in place.<\/p>\n The whole of the country is now covered by a yellow wind warning from 1pm until 8pm today.<\/p>\n Elsewhere in the UK, all eight of London\u2019s royal parks, including Hyde Park and Richmond Park, will be closed on Saturday because of strong winds during Storm Amy.<\/p>\n In a statement on its website, the Royal Parks said: \u201cDue to severe wind gusts caused by Storm Amy, all of the royal parks, plus Brompton Cemetery and Victoria Tower Gardens will be closed on Saturday October 4.<\/p>\n \u201cThis closure includes all park roads and cycleways, cafes and kiosks, parks sports venues, the Serpentine lido and boating lake, and the royal parks shop.\u201d<\/p>\n It said opening times on Sunday will be delayed because of safety inspections.<\/p>\n \u201cThe safety of visitors and staff is our top priority,\u201d the Royal Parks said.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re sorry for any inconvenience that these closures may cause.\u201d<\/p>\n In Scotland, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) have said they are still working to reconnect power to 62,000 customers.<\/p>\n As of 7.30am on Saturday, power had been restored to 16,500 customers but thousands were still without electricity due to wind gusts in excess of 100mph from Storm Amy, officials said.<\/p>\n
