{"id":181848,"date":"2025-10-06T15:06:06","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T15:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/181848\/"},"modified":"2025-10-06T15:06:06","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T15:06:06","slug":"pharmacists-risking-homes-to-stay-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/181848\/","title":{"rendered":"Pharmacists risking homes to stay open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Around 95% of services that are offered by smaller pharmacies are funded by the NHS. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Larger pharmacies can offer private services to boost their income but for independent pharmacies, high inflation costs and delayed payments from the NHS, has led to some owners needing to cover the costs with their own private funds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Andrew Lane is an Oxfordshire based pharmacist and former chair of the NPA and said, &#8220;Some of my colleagues are having to re-mortgage their homes, cash in their pensions, which should not be the situation in business which is primarily an NHS business.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The sector received an additional \u00a35.1bn in the spring, but with increases to employer National Insurance contributions and higher running costs, the NPA believes an additional \u00a32.6bn is needed to ensure the sector&#8217;s survival.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Around 95% of services that are offered by smaller pharmacies are funded by the NHS.
