{"id":18247,"date":"2025-07-23T16:19:08","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T16:19:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/18247\/"},"modified":"2025-07-23T16:19:08","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T16:19:08","slug":"former-british-number-one-admits-his-career-is-coming-to-an-end-and-he-wont-be-playing-for-much-longer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/18247\/","title":{"rendered":"Former British number one admits his career is coming to an end and he won&#8217;t be playing for much longer"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dan Evans is enjoying being back at the Citi Open in Washington D.C.<\/p>\n<p>The 35-year-old won the ATP 500 title back in 2023, which is the biggest championship win of his career.<\/p>\n<p>Two years on and Evans is back into the fourth round in America\u2019s capital as he searches for his third career title.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/tag\/dan-evans\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dan Evans<\/a> has enjoyed an impressive summer of tennis but this could very well be one of the last times he enters this portion of the year as a tennis player.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"668\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-2222643793-1024x668.jpg\" alt=\"Dan Evans looks on during his match against Novak Djokovic at The Championships - Wimbledon 2025\" class=\"wp-image-315180\" \/>Photo by Rob Newell \u2013 CameraSport via Getty ImagesDan Evans thinks the end of his tennis is on the horizon<\/p>\n<p>Evans is now in his mid-thirties and has been on the <a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/tag\/atp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ATP Tour<\/a> for the better part of two decades.<\/p>\n<p>He has been one of Britain\u2019s most hardworking and consistent players and he has helped to pave the way for the next generation of players.<\/p>\n<p>But as he continues to battle on court, <a href=\"https:\/\/tennishead.net\/dan-evans-confirms-if-he-played-at-wimbledon-for-the-last-time-following-his-defeat-to-novak-djokovic\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Evans, who lost to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon<\/a>, admits he does not believe he has much time left in his playing career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have always said, even when I had established myself in the Top 30 or Top 40, that winning on this circuit is never easy,\u201d Evans told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atptour.com\/en\/news\/washington-2025-monday\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">ATP website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe best part of winning on the tour is, after the victory, getting on the bike to warm up and being with the people who work with you every day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes we take it for granted, but the last year, or the last two years, have been tough, and I definitely enjoy it, treasure every moment I spend on these courts because the end of my career is approaching, I can\u2019t hide from that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dan Evans reaches the fourth round at the Citi Open in Washington<\/p>\n<p>Evans saved some of his best tennis for the Citi Open and he is proving it yet again.<\/p>\n<p>The Briton began his latest campaign in America\u2019s capital by coming from a set down to defeat Zizou Bergs 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.<\/p>\n<p>Evans followed that victory by upsetting Alex Michelsen 6-4, 6-4, which marked his seventh successive win at the Citi Open.<\/p>\n<p>Evans\u2019 next opponent is the tricky Corentin Moutet, who defeated fellow Frenchman Alexandre M\u00fcller for the loss of just one game.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Dan Evans is enjoying being back at the Citi Open in Washington D.C.
