Nadiya Hussain<\/a> has opened up about the candid reason why she believes her BBC<\/a> show wasn\u2019t recommissioned.<\/p>\n The national broadcaster confirmed last month that they would not be working on another cookery show<\/a> with the Great British Bake Off<\/a> star, 40, after a decade on the screen.<\/p>\n The TV personality took to social media to explain that she had always been made to \u2018feel grateful\u2019 for the opportunities she received,<\/a> which added an \u2018invisible pressure\u2019 to not voice her frustrations or her desire for more.<\/p>\n In a new interview, she has delved into her thoughts on why her working relationship with the BBC ended and the difficulties she has faced navigating the TV industry as a Bangladeshi Muslim woman. <\/p>\n When asked by Paul Brunson if \u2018speaking her truth\u2019 is one of the reasons her show didn\u2019t get commissioned, she explained that she had accepted she was \u2018very BBC\u2019 after exploring work at other broadcasters.<\/p>\n She told the We Need to Talk<\/a> podcast: \u2018I suppose it means that they\u2019ve got me exactly where they want me and utterly unbiased. And just they\u2019ve got me where they want me. Neutral. And I am not neutral. <\/p>\n \t\t \u2018I have opinions and I have things to say. They\u2019ll keep you till you\u2019re of no use to them. And I think that\u2019s what happened. I think essentially I got lots of reasons why they couldn\u2019t commission the show.\u2019<\/p>\n Her lack of recommision was given \u2018rough reasons\u2019 but nothing \u2018definitive\u2019, she shared.<\/p>\n Before adding: \u2018My husband and I always spoke about it and he just said, \u201cthere\u2019s going to be a point where they\u2019re not going to need you anymore. And the second you don\u2019t fit the box\u2026 there\u2019ll be no space for you. And I suppose I don\u2019t fit that space anymore.\u2019<\/p>\n Reflecting on how the new was announced she claims the broadcaster told her to say she chose to no longer do the show to \u2018focus on different projects\u2019 which she added was \u2018not the truth\u2019 leading her to refusing to post it.<\/p>\n As for what\u2019s next, she is ready to be her \u2018unfiltered\u2019 self, adding: \u2018I just decided, clean slate. I no longer have an agent. Everyone\u2019s gone, because I want it to start from scratch. <\/p>\n \t\t \u2018As if I had won Bake Off ten years ago, when I had nobody but my husband and myself and my instinct and my gut and what it tells me, it\u2019s been the most freeing thing to know that every decision I make is my own, and nobody gets to filter me.\u2019<\/p>\n Elsewhere in the podcast she opened up about an incident which took place during an appearance on a \u2018very big breakfast show\u2019 on TV, although she does not specify which one. <\/p>\n She said the hosts were \u2018mocking a recipe out of her book\u2019 and renamed her Chaat in a bag to \u2018shat in a bag\u2019 which prompted her to file an official complaint.<\/p>\n \u2018I found that really distasteful and really hateful. And I said, they need to apologize for that because that was really deeply disrespectful and nothing, nothing, nothing. They refused to apologize,\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n During her career she\u2019s been made to feel like a \u2018tick box exercise\u2019, Nadiya shared.<\/p>\n \t\t \u2018[I had to be] a muslim that was relatable, like the People\u2019s Muslim, the people\u2019s person of color, the digestible version of myself,\u2019 the famed baker said.<\/p>\n Reflecting on a time when her proposal to a publisher on a book about parenthood as someone from a \u2018ethnic minority background straddling two worlds\u2019 was shot down, she said she was made to feel like her \u2018voice didn\u2019t matter\u2019.<\/p>\n Since winning series six of The Great British Bake Off in 2015, the mother-of-three has hosted a while variety of shows including The Chronicles of Nadiya, Nadiya\u2019s Family Favourites, Nadiya\u2019s Everyday Baking and Nadiya\u2019s Cook Once, Eat Twice.<\/p>\n \u2018I look back [at my career] and I think, oh my goodness, it was all a tick box exercise till they just didn\u2019t need me anymore. Till they just said, actually, unless you\u2019re the version that we want, you don\u2019t get to be the version that\u2019s authentic. <\/p>\n \u2018And when you decide that you want to be authentic, there\u2019s no room for you.
