{"id":184265,"date":"2025-10-08T01:10:15","date_gmt":"2025-10-08T01:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/184265\/"},"modified":"2025-10-08T01:10:15","modified_gmt":"2025-10-08T01:10:15","slug":"andy-roddick-hits-out-at-the-tennis-schedule-again-after-shanghai-withdrawals-its-getting-worse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/184265\/","title":{"rendered":"Andy Roddick hits out at the tennis schedule again after Shanghai withdrawals, &#8216;it\u2019s getting worse&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>   <a class=\"fw\" href=\"https:\/\/profile.google.com\/cp\/Cg0vZy8xMXlnMTNoeXE4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"28\" height=\"28\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/wp-content\/themes\/grv-media\/img\/google-discover.svg\" alt=\"\"\/> Follow us on Google Discover <\/a>  <\/p>\n<p>The Shanghai Masters event has been hit with mass withdrawals.<\/p>\n<p>World number one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/what-carlos-alcaraz-plans-to-do-next-after-withdrawing-from-the-shanghai-masters\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Carlos Alcaraz has skipped the Shanghai Masters<\/a>, instead choosing to recover from an ankle injury he picked up in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>Several other big names withdrew, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/stefanos-tsitsipas\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stefanos Tsitsipas<\/a>, Grigor Dimitrov, Joao Fonseca, and Arthur Fils.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"705\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-2232290875-1024x705.jpg\" alt=\"Stefanos Tsitsipas looks on during the 2025 US Open\" class=\"wp-image-130725\" \/>Photo by Elsa\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Competing in the sweltering Shanghai conditions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/tallon-griekspoor-sends-message-to-jannik-sinner-after-he-retires-from-shanghai-masters-with-cramp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jannik Sinner retired during his third-round match<\/a>, as the event lost another major star.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the latest developments at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/shanghai-masters\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shanghai Masters<\/a>, tennis legend Andy Roddick has weighed in with his thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>Andy Roddick says the tennis schedule \u2018sucks\u2019 as Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz withdraw<\/p>\n<p>During the latest episode of \u2018Served with Andy Roddick\u2019 the American commented on the busy tennis schedule.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Jannik] Sinner and [Carlos] Alcaraz were paying the bill for the scheduling. It\u2019s impossible to be physically and mentally perfect week in and week out,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/andy-roddick\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Roddick<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose guys can generally win when they are not. Something has got to give. This schedule continues to suck, it has sucked. It is only getting worse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho pays the bill? The fans a lot of the time. The players do for sure. But you have to have a trade off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Roddick then took the time to respond to fans who criticized <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alcaraz<\/a> and Sinner for withdrawing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome people are mad that Alcaraz is not playing and Sinner withdrew. It\u2019s too much of an ask.
