A comical scene from Gavin and Stacey,<\/a> centred around the notorious fishing<\/a> trip, was left on the editing room floor. The scene, penned by creators James Corden and Ruth Jones for the third series, never made it to air. Over a decade later, this unseen footage is being revealed to the public for the first time today.<\/p>\n

The scene features Jason and Uncle Bryn having an open discussion about the enigmatic trip. <\/a>James shared: “We wrote this whole moment that Jason came into Bryn’s house. Bryn had been clearing out his loft and had found this camcorder tape that said ‘The fishing trip’. The idea was that they put it in. It’s all camcorder footage and then just at the moment that you think it’s going to go on, the tape fuzzes out and gets stuck in the video player.”<\/p>\n

Fans have been theorising about what transpired on the trip for years. Some of the theories are so outlandish that they’ve left the cast flabbergasted. Ruth commented: “It’s amazing the theories that have come out. People say, ‘I think I’ve worked it out. It does make you go, ‘People’s minds are really strange’.”<\/p>\n

James chimed in: “And quite dark! If anybody ever asks me what happened I say, ‘I have no idea, I wasn’t there’.”<\/p>\n

Gavin and Stacey concluded last Christmas<\/a> with a 90-minute special. In their new book When Gavin Met Stacey, James and Ruth have unveiled secrets about the comedy. The duo are currently developing a new series for AppleTV+. Earlier this week, they discussed the project publicly for the first time. Ruth revealed: “We are writing together at the moment.”<\/p>\n

James stated: “We are trying as best we can to just sit with the characters and wait for them to tell us where it’s going to go and what the show is going to be,” reports the Daily Star<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The full script reads:. JASON: Is that what I think it is? BRYN: Yes. JASON: I thought it had been destroyed. BRYN: I know, I know. JASON: You promised me you’d burned it. BRYN: I know, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t bring myself to do it. JASON: Do you ever…? BRYN: No, of course not. A couple of times I’ve watched it. JASON: Put it on. BRYN: No, Jason, no. We can’t. JASON: Do it.<\/p>\n

The hit sitcom went out in style with critical acclaim and a huge record-breaking BBC<\/a> audience on Christmas Day. At a London event for fans, James Corde<\/a>n and Ruth Jones gave behind the scenes secrets including how they considered taking Barry Island and the cast to the big screen.<\/p>\n

This also comes after it was revealed that Ruth is set to star and co-create a new comedy for the BBC<\/a> with a writing partner – but it’s not James Corden. BBC Wales and BBC Comedy have commissioned a new sitcom from the Gavin & Stacey<\/a> star that’s all about navigating relationships as a middle aged person.<\/p>\n

The 59-year-old<\/a> is teaming up with actor and comedian Steve Speirs for the project, 10 years after they starred in Sky comedy Stella together. The untitled show will follow the unlikely friendship between two people who meet at a knee trauma clinic – retired teacher and widower Clive, 60, and environmental officer Shelley-Anne, 55, who is going through a bitter divorce.<\/p>\n

Ruth said in a statement: “I\u2019m so grateful to the BBC for commissioning our new series. Steve and I are old friends and working with him is always a thrill. Can\u2019t wait.”<\/p>\n

While Steve, 60, added: “Thanks to the team at the BBC for backing our new show. I\u2019ve worked with Ruth for over 30 years and am really looking forward to doing it again!”<\/p>\n
