DARK ANGEL STAR (5.10, trb) can light up Chelmsford on Thursday in the Betfair Racing Podcasts Nursery Handicap.

The juvenile, trained by Jame Tate, showed promise in her first two racecourse outings, finishing third at both York and Beverley.

But it was last time out at Newcastle that the daughter of Dark Angel really shone.

She was ridden with plenty of confidence by today’s pilot Clifford Lee and won a novice heat with a cosy looking length-and-a-quarter in hand 32 days ago.

At Newcastle this evening, go green by backing THE GREEN MAN (7.00 nb) in the Florence Jamieson Memorial Handicap.

Chelmsford Racecourse, where Jason Heavey fancies Dark Angel Star to triumph in the 5.10

The six-year-old took advantage of a drop in the weights in facile fashion on his second outing under Philip Kirby’s care in an 11-runner handicap at this C&D just nine days ago.

So he has obvious follow-up claims despite a 5lb penalty.

Also in the North East, EDWARDTHENINTH (4.20) can ascend into the winners’ enclosure for the first time in the Free Bets On attheraces.com Handicap.

This will be only the seventh appearance at the racecourse for the four-year-old now trained by Ruth Jefferson.

After only showing only moderate form as a three-year-old, a year off the trcak and the switch of yard saw him finish a very good half-length second to Quercus Robur in a handicap at this C&D 28 days ago.

A similar run can bring him a maiden success.

Thursday’s nap selection – CISCO DISCO (1.40) – runs in the Absolut Vodka Apprentice Handicap at Ayr.

The seven-year-old trained locally by Mike Smith is currently in a rich vein of form at the Scottish track, recording three wins there in the last seven weeks, including a seven-runner handicap nine days ago despite carrying his head high.

He’ll take some beating on this occasion.
