{"id":18594,"date":"2025-07-23T19:32:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T19:32:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/18594\/"},"modified":"2025-07-23T19:32:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T19:32:11","slug":"essex-sci-fi-author-announces-first-childrens-book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/18594\/","title":{"rendered":"Essex sci-fi author announces first children&#8217;s book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Murray Fisher was born and raised in Chelmsford and Brentwood before moving to\u00a0East London.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A year ago, the 51-year-old moved back to Essex and now lives\u00a0in Finchingfield with his wife, daughter and pet cat.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mr Fisher has been writing stories for over a decade, including screen plays and illustrations for picture books.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   alt=\"Author - Murray Fisher was born and raised in the county\" style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>Author &#8211; Murray Fisher was born and raised in the county (Image: Murray Fisher) He will release his first published\u00a0children&#8217;s book, Underlings: The Spark Engine\u00a0in September.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The sci-fi novel, aimed at children aged nine and above, follows 13-year-old protagonist, Evin as she solves mysteries to save the world from a deceptive leader.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mr Fisher said: &#8220;With a strong female protagonist and inspired by real-world locations like the Kelvedon Nuclear Bunker, it\u2019s all about curiosity and invention.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  On September 13, Mr Fisher will host a free launch event at the Museum of Power in Maldon from 10am to 3pm.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He said: &#8220;I\u2019m really excited about my launch event at The Museum of Power.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;The manager of the museum, Debbie, has been incredibly accommodating, and the venue matches the machine-powered theme of my book beautifully.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Moreover, I\u2019m looking forward to engaging with my target audience \u2013 not just young readers, but their families too.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;After all, middle grade books aren\u2019t just for children, and lots of parents and grandparents buy books for children.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Often, book launches take place in bookshops, so it\u2019s also fun to offer a quite different environment for my launch.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Aimed at families, the event is free to attend and will feature book signings, a themed scavenger hunt for children and questions answered by the author himself.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The event will coincide with the venue&#8217;s free heritage day event from 9am.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Speaking about his first official release, Mr Fisher said he&#8217;s like to see the novel &#8220;reach lots of readers&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He said: &#8220;For the event, I\u2019m hoping to meet families and fire up their interest in storytelling, science, invention, reading or all those things.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;There should be plenty of opportunity for people to have a chat and ask me questions before the formal Q&amp;A on the day, too.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;For the book itself, I\u2019d love to see it reach lots of readers, through bookshops, the school visits I\u2019m undertaking, or through other events.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;I already have several other books in the works, one of which is a follow up to Underlings: The Spark Engine, so hopefully it won\u2019t be too long before more of my work hits the shelves.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;My publisher, Toller Press, has been very supportive, and as a new publisher I\u2019m delighted that they\u2019ve put their faith in this book.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;I\u2019m looking forward to booking more school visits and events, so would love to hear from anyone who\u2019d like to know more.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mr Fisher will also attend the Museum&#8217;s\u00a0Steampunk event on September 21.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Murray Fisher was born and raised in Chelmsford and Brentwood before moving to\u00a0East London.
