Lansoprazole works by <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/news\/uk\/2114126\/omeprazole-warning-issued-nhs-heartburn\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reducing the amount of acid your stomach makes <\/a>and is used for indigestion, heartburn, acid reflux and gastroesophageal-reflux-disease. It is also taken to prevent and treat stomach ulcers and a rare condition called Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.<\/p>\n<p data-mce-linkchecker-status=\"valid\">According to the <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC6177714\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology<\/a> it is one of the most commonly prescribed medicines in England, but, like any medication, it comes with some warnings &#8211; and can cause issues when mixed with other pills. The <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/medicines\/lansoprazole\/#:~:text=Lansoprazole%20is%20a%20type%20of,of%20acid%20the%20stomach%20makes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NHS website<\/a> says: \u201cSome medicines and Lansoprazole can affect each other and make it more likely that you will have side effects or stop one of the medicines working as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You should therefore tell your doctor if you&#8217;re taking any of these medicines before you start Lansoprazole treatment:<\/p>\n<p>Digoxin (a heart medicine)Antifungal medicines such as Itraconazole, Ketoconazole or PosaconazoleMethotrexate (a medicine that treats psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis)HIV medicinesPhenytoin (an epilepsy medicine)Rifampicin (an antibiotic)Clopidogrel or Warfarin (medicines to prevent or treat blood clots)Fluvoxamine (an antidepressant)<\/p>\n<p> <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/newsletter-preference-centre\/?view=Solus&amp;mailingListId=f67f8c45-7322-495e-9ca1-e9a87ae99175&amp;utm_source=solusarticle\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Find out about the symptoms you need to watch out for and get health advice with our free health newsletter from the Daily Express<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>The health body said: \u201cThese are not all the medicines that may not mix well with Lansoprazole. For a full list see the leaflet inside your medicines packet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some of the &#8220;common&#8221; side effects of Lansoprazole may happen in more than one in 100 people. You should talk to your doctor or pharmacist if these side effects bother you or do not go away:<\/p>\n<p>HeadachesFeeling sickDiarrhoea or being sick (vomiting)Stomach painConstipationWindItchy skin rashesFeeling dizzy or tiredDry mouth or throat<\/p>\n<p>You should call a doctor or call 111 &#8220;straight away&#8221; if you have:<\/p>\n<p>Joint pain along with a red skin rash, especially in parts of your body exposed to the sun, such as your arms, cheeks, and nose (this may be less noticeable on brown or black skin) \u2013 these can be signs of a rare condition called subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus. This can happen even if you&#8217;ve been taking Lansoprazole for a long timeStomach pain that seems to be getting worse \u2013 this can be a sign of an inflamed liver or pancreasSevere or persistent diarrhoea \u2013 this can be a sign of an inflamed bowel<\/p>\n<p>You should also avoid taking Lansoprazole alongside a supplement called St John\u2019s wort. The NHS continued: \u201cSt John&#8217;s wort may stop Lansoprazole working as well as it should.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere&#8217;s not enough information to say that other complementary medicines and herbal remedies are safe to take with Lansoprazole. They&#8217;re not tested in the same way as pharmacy and prescription medicines. They&#8217;re generally not tested for the effect they have on other medicines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTell your doctor or pharmacist if you&#8217;re taking any other medicines, including herbal medicines, vitamins or supplements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Who can\u2019t take Lansoprazole<\/p>\n<p>Most adults and children can take Lansoprazole, but it is not suitable for some people.
