The ATP Tour is rapidly progressing towards the ATP Finals, but the Shanghai Masters is currently taking centre stage.<\/p>\n

And there has already been plenty of drama at the ATP<\/a> Masters 1000 event, with withdrawals representing the key theme.<\/p>\n

Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from the Shanghai Masters<\/a> before it started, and he has since been joined by the likes of Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas.<\/p>\n

Jannik Sinner is also out of the Shanghai Masters<\/a> after experiencing cramp, with the ATP players told they must speak out <\/a>if they want to spark change.<\/p>\n

Andy Roddick has criticized the tennis schedule<\/a> amid the withdrawals, although they do mean Novak Djokovic has a chance to prove himself<\/a> at this late stage of his career.<\/p>\n

There was also a chance for Tallon Griekspoor<\/a> to show his worth at the Shanghai Masters, but he fell to Valentin Vacherot just days after his walkover win against Sinner.<\/p>\n

Reacting to his exit, Griekspoor told Ziggo Sport (translated from Dutch to English): \u201cI played a good match against the world number two two days ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday I lost to the world number 204. That\u2019s tennis summed up in two days. It just goes to show I\u2019ve chosen a c\u2014\u2013 sport.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll probably want to play tennis again tomorrow, but for now, I\u2019m done with it. I would rather have lost in the first round than this match.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tallon Griekspoor understandably angry after missing Shanghai Masters golden opportunity\u00a0<\/p>\n

Griekspoor was understandably frustrated after his defeat, having just knocked out former world number one Sinner, and indeed American talent Jenson Brooksby in the previous round.<\/p>\n

The Dutchman was leading his third round tie with Sinner 6-7(3-7), 7-5, 3-2 when the Italian decided enough was enough.<\/p>\n

Griekspoor consoled Sinner<\/a> after his retirement, but he quickly moved on to his round of 16 Shanghai Masters meeting with qualifier Vacherot.<\/p>\n

And it was indeed the world number 204 who came out on top, coming from behind to beat the world number 31 4-6, 7-6(7-1), 6-4.<\/p>\n
