The data also indicates there were 709,710 people aged between 65 and 79 in receipt of the disability payment at the end of April, boosting their monthly income to up to \u00a31,670.80.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">During the 2025\/26 financial year, thousands of people over <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/state-pension\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"State PensionLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">State Pension<\/a> age in Scotland, England and Wales, with a disability, long-term illness, physical or mental health condition, will receive support of between \u00a3116.80 and \u00a3749.80 every four-week pay period.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It\u2019s important to be aware that all new claims for PIP in Scotland have been replaced by <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/adult-disability-payment\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Adult Disability PaymentLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Adult Disability Payment<\/a> (ADP) and the remaining existing PIP claimants will have their cases transferred to the devolved benefit this summer.<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE: <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/lifestyle\/money\/claim-attendance-allowance-state-pension-35597561\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">People over State Pension age with health issues due up to \u00a31,362 each month<\/a>READ MORE: <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/lifestyle\/money\/tips-people-claiming-disability-benefits-35588585\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Top tips to help people making a new claim for devolved disability benefits<\/a>Pensioners on PIP<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The latest DWP figures show that across Scotland, England and Wales, the number of people over 65 on PIP includes:<\/p>\n<p>Aged 65 &#8211; 69: 424,614Aged 70 &#8211; 74: 219,089Aged 75 &#8211; 79: 69,013Total: 709,710<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Many people over 56 and nearing State Pension age may not be aware of a change to PIP guidance in 2019 that states \u201cclaimants whose review would have taken place when they were of State Pension age means that they are now generally awarded ongoing awards\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Award types and review periods are set on an individual basis, based on the claimant\u2019s needs and the likelihood of those needs changing. It takes into account such matters as planned treatment\/therapy or learning\/adapting to manage a condition.<\/p>\n<p>PIP awards<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Guidance from DWP states:<\/p>\n<p>For fixed length awards, the review period usually ranges from a minimum of nine months to a maximum 10 yearsReview periods of less than nine months are set only in exceptional circumstancesAn award of two years or less is considered short-termCombined incomes<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The full, New <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/state-pension\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"State PensionLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">State Pension<\/a> is worth \u00a3230.25 each week (\u00a3921 every 4-week pay period) and the Basic State Pension up to \u00a3176.45 (\u00a3705.80 every 4-week pay period) &#8211; how much you are paid depends on the amount of National Insurance contributions made.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Although payments for State Pension, PIP and ADP are made separately, they could provide a combined monthly income of up to \u00a31,670.80 &#8211; based on someone in receipt of the full, New State Pension and highest PIP or ADP awards for the daily living and mobility component.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/12_Screen-Shot-2020-08-25-at-060923.png\" alt=\"An older man and woman are sitting at a table looking over paperwork \" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>In most cases, people nearing State Pension age making a new claim for PIP are given a 10-year award.(Image: Getty )PIP and ADP payment rates<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You will need an assessment to work out the level of financial help you will receive and your rate will be regularly reviewed to make sure you are getting the right support. Payments are made every four weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">PIP is made up of two components:<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Whether you get one or both of these and how much depends on how severely your condition affects you.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You will be paid the following amounts per week depending on your circumstances:<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Daily living<\/p>\n<p>Standard rate: \u00a373.90Enhanced rate: \u00a3110.40<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Mobility<\/p>\n<p>Standard rate: \u00a329.20Enhanced rate: \u00a377.05PIP, ADP and State Pension age<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">When someone reaches State Pension age, they can no longer make a new claim for PIP, Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or ADP.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">However, if someone is already receiving PIP, DLA, or ADP when they reach State Pension age, they will continue to receive the benefit until the award period ends where it will be reviewed following the normal process.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">People who reach State Pension age who are no longer claiming any of the working age disability benefits may also be able to reclaim it &#8211; as long as they are claiming for the same health conditions that they initially received the award for and the last claim ended less than 12 months before reaching State Pension age.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">For people over State Pension age with a health condition, long-term illness or disability they may be eligible for Attendance Allowance &#8211; this is worth either \u00a373.90 or \u00a3110.40 every week from DWP. Below is an overview of both benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Who is eligible for PIP or ADP?<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">To be eligible for PIP or ADP, you must have a health condition or disability where you:<\/p>\n<p>have had difficulties with daily living or getting around (or both) for 3 monthsexpect these difficulties to continue for at least 9 months<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You usually need to have lived in the UK for at least two of the last three years and be in the country when you apply.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In addition to what we have outlined above if you get or need help with any of the following because of your condition, you should consider applying for PIP or ADP.<\/p>\n<p>preparing, cooking or eating foodmanaging your medicationwashing, bathing or using the toiletdressing and undressingengaging and communicating with other peoplereading and understanding written informationmaking decisions about moneyplanning a journey or following a routemoving around<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">There are different rules if you are terminally ill, you will find these on the GOV.UK website <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/pip\/claiming-pip-if-youre-terminally-ill\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"hereLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">DWP or Social Security Scotland will assess how difficult you find daily living and mobility tasks. For each task they will look at:<\/p>\n<p>whether you can do it safelyhow long it takes youhow often your condition affects this activitywhether you need help to do it, from a person or using extra equipmentHow you are assessed<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You will be assessed by an independent healthcare professional to help the DWP determine the level of financial support, if any, you need, for PIP.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Face-to-face consultations for health-related benefits are offered alongside video calls, telephone and paper-based assessments.
