Northamptonshire have signed Australia Test opening batter Nathan McSweeney for the 2026 season.<\/p>\n
The 26-year-old, who also bowls off-spin, made his Test debut against India in November 2024 and played the next two of the five-match series.<\/p>\n
In the most recent Australian domestic season, he captained his state, South Australia, to the Sheffield Shield title and the One-Day Cup, as well as leading Brisbane Heat to win the Big Bash in 2024.<\/p>\n
“Nathan McSweeney is a brilliant player who has so much talent and potential,” Northants head coach Darren Lehmann said., external<\/a><\/p>\n “He’s a classy individual who will hopefully provide us with some stability in that top order. We can’t wait for him to arrive and hit the ground running.”<\/p>\n McSweeney, who averages 35 from 46 first-class games, will be available for Northants across all formats in 2026.<\/p>\n His arrival follows that of former Leicestershire all-rounder Lewis Kimber<\/a>, India white-ball leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal<\/a> and Australian pace bowler Harry Conway <\/a>for next summer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Northamptonshire have signed Australia Test opening batter Nathan McSweeney for the 2026 season.
