Jon Rahm might be honoured to have helped Europe win the Ryder Cup two weeks ago in New York, but he “finds it weird” being congratulated on an achievement he didn’t do it himself.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rahm<\/a>, 30, may have lost his Sunday singles match to Xander Schauffele but he still proved a major thorn in Keegan Bradley’s Team USA at Bethpage Black given he took three points from five sessions at the Ryder Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The LIV Golf superstar won both of his foursomes matches alongside his Legion XIII teammate Tyrrell Hatton, just as he did at Marco Simone in 2023.<\/p>\n

Rahm then teamed up with Sepp Straka in both fourballs sessions where he went 1-1.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Spaniard’s three points for the week helped Luke Donald’s Europe see out a deserved 15-13 success.<\/p>\n

It saw Europe become the first away team to win the Ryder Cup since Medinah in 2012.<\/p>\n

The win also saw Donald become the first captain since Tony Jacklin in 1989 to win two Ryder Cups in a row.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rahm has now played in four Ryder Cup contests and been on the winning team three times (2018, 2023, 2025).\u00a0<\/p>\n

After the latest Ryder Cup match, Rahm has now strengthened his Ryder Cup points total to 9-5-3, which equates to a solid 62% strike rate.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rahm has made it no secret in the past that representing Europe at the Ryder Cup is one of his greatest career achievements and honours of his career, alongside representing Spain at the Olympics.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, back in his homeland for this week’s Open de Espana on the DP World Tour<\/a>, Rahm is finding it hard to take too many plaudits for himself.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“It is very weird being congratulated for something that I didn’t just do myself,” Rahm told reporters ahead of Thursday’s first round.<\/p>\n

“Like when I get thank yous and congratulations, I wish we were all together because we all deserve it, right. It wasn’t just me. I only contributed three points out of 15, right, and all of those three with a partner.<\/p>\n

“So it’s an odd feeling, but it’s very nice to be able to give that to European golf.”<\/p>\n

Rahm is joined by his European Ryder Cup teammate Shane Lowry at the Open de Espana.<\/p>\n

Lowry holed a clutch birdie putt from seven feet on the 18th hole to tie his match with Russell Henley and clinch the vital 14th point for Europe.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rahm also touched on the hostile atmosphere experienced by the European players, especially Rory McIlroy and his wife Erica, at Bethpage.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said he “couldn’t believe it at times<\/a>“.<\/p>\n

Rahm and Lowry are the only two Ryder Cup players competing in Spain.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rahm is looking to win the Open de Espana for a fourth time in his career following victories in 2018, 2019 and 2022.<\/p>\n

He is a red-hot 3\/1 favourite to get the job done once again at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.<\/p>\n

The Spanish favourite is hoping to follow in the footsteps of his Ryder Cup teammate Bob MacIntyre who won on home soil at the Dunhill Links at the Home of Golf last Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I would say after watching Bob MacIntyre win in Scotland it’s a huge positive, yeah,” said Rahm.<\/p>\n

“From going to having the crowd against us to having everybody cheer for me is going to be very special. Massive difference, massive juxtaposition but beautiful if a different way, right.<\/p>\n

“I’m looking forward to it. Looking forward to hopefully getting that fourth Spanish Open, and again, hoping to actually just perform well in front of this crowd. They have been so good to me, they have been so supportive, the least I can do is give many my best shot and hopefully I’m there on Sunday to win it.”<\/p>\n

Despite being a clear favourite with the boomakers to win a fourth Spanish Open this weekend, Rahm still faces stiff competition in Madrid.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Not only is fellow Ryder Cupper Lowry standing in his way, but also his LIV Golf arch-rivals Joaquin Niemann and home favourites Sergio Garcia and David Puig.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rahm needs to etch his name on the famous Open de Espana title two more times in order to match the record set by Angel de la Torre.<\/p>\n

“Getting one step closer to eventually possibly getting to No. 6,” said Rahm when pressed for what motivates him most this week.<\/p>\n

“I was able to get three very, very fast, and it’s never easy, and I’m hoping I can do sooner than later.<\/p>\n

“But just focusing on that, hopefully getting that fourth.”<\/p>\n
