{"id":188051,"date":"2025-10-09T12:39:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T12:39:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/188051\/"},"modified":"2025-10-09T12:39:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T12:39:09","slug":"zaha-hadid-architects-completes-xian-international-football-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/188051\/","title":{"rendered":"Zaha Hadid Architects completes Xi&#8217;an International Football Centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 60,000-seat Xi&#8217;an International Football Centre by UK studio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/zaha-hadid\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zaha Hadid Architects<\/a> has opened in central <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/china\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">China<\/a>, hosting its first matches.<\/p>\n<p>Commissioned by the Chinese Football Association, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/stadiums\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stadium<\/a> in the Fengdong New City area of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/xian\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Xi&#8217;an<\/a> was inaugurated with a trio of under-23 matches last month.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2256556 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/xian-international-football-centre-zaha-hadid-architects_dezeen_2364_col_15-852x457.jpg\" alt=\"Xi\u2019an International Football Centre by Zaha Hadid Architects\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1269\"  \/>Xi&#8217;an International Football Centre hosted its first games last month<\/p>\n<p>The stadium has a sinuous form that, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaha-hadid.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zaha Hadid Architects<\/a>, was informed by the city&#8217;s windy winters and hot summers.<\/p>\n<p>It rises at the centre of the main stands to increase the amount of seating placed in the most favourable view positions \u2013 around midfield alongside the pitch.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2256545 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/xian-international-football-centre-zaha-hadid-architects_dezeen_2364_col_5-852x770.jpg\" alt=\"Xi\u2019an International Football Centre by Zaha Hadid Architects\" width=\"2364\" height=\"2137\"  \/>The stadium is located in the Fengdong New City area of Xi&#8217;an<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The stadium&#8217;s sweeping geometries are defined to minimize the impacts of prevailing winds from the north that chill the city each winter,&#8221; said Zaha Hadid Architects.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0&#8220;The fluid forms of the roof shelter the saddle-shaped structure [that was] designed to maximise availability of spectator seating at midfield.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2256546 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/xian-international-football-centre-zaha-hadid-architects_dezeen_2364_col_6-852x857.jpg\" alt=\"View of Xi'an from stadium\" width=\"2349\" height=\"2364\"  \/>A wide concourse surrounds the stadium at the upper level<\/p>\n<p>At its upper level, the stadium is wrapped with a wide concourse, which is sheltered by the expansive overhanging roof.<\/p>\n<p>These terraces step down the facade at the southern end of the stadium to create a covered plaza-like area.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/03\/28\/guangzhou-stadium-zaha-hadid-architects-greater-bay-area\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/greater-bay-area-sports-complex-architecture-public-leisure-china-guangzhou_dezeen_2364_sq-191x191.j.jpeg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Greater Bay Area Sports Complex by Zaha Hadid Architects\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> Photos reveal Zaha Hadid Architects stadium nearing completion in Guangzhou\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2020\/08\/21\/zaha-hadid-architects-xian-international-football-centre\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Initial plans for the stadium showed these terraces covered in planting<\/a>, although this has not, as yet, been installed.<\/p>\n<p>Red concrete columns that punctuate the terraces support the lightweight roof structure.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2256553 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/xian-international-football-centre-zaha-hadid-architects_dezeen_2364_col_13-852x542.jpg\" alt=\"Xi\u2019an International Football Centre by Zaha Hadid Architects\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1504\"  \/>The roof is supported by red concrete columns<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Wide perimeter-roof overhangs shelter facilities within the building&#8217;s envelope, while the large, shaded, open-air terraces and public concourses provide comfortable conditions in the hot summers of Xi&#8217;an&#8217;s continental climate,&#8221;
