{"id":188658,"date":"2025-10-09T18:29:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T18:29:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/188658\/"},"modified":"2025-10-09T18:29:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T18:29:08","slug":"met-police-officers-investigated-by-iopc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/188658\/","title":{"rendered":"Met Police officers investigated by IOPC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Ten Metropolitan Police officers are to face accelerated misconduct hearings following a BBC Panorama investigation into racism and misogyny at Charing Cross police station, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">A misconduct process began after an <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cvgq06d44jyo\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 jZoZnB\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">undercover BBC reporter heard officers calling for immigrants to be shot<\/a>, revelling in the use of force and being dismissive of rape claims.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">The IOPC said it had sufficient evidence to show officers breached professional standards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Rachel Watson, director general of the police watchdog, said she was &#8220;appalled&#8221; at the report and said &#8220;immediate action&#8221; to enable the officers&#8217; dismissal would be taken at the &#8220;earliest opportunity&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">She said the hearings would send &#8220;a clear message that the type of behaviour seen in the documentary is taken extremely seriously&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Eight serving Met officers, a former Met Police constable, and a police constable who moved from London to serve with Gloucestershire Police will be subject to the accelerated disciplinary hearings, the IOPC said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">The IOPC also said:<\/p>\n<p>One of the officers &#8211; a police constable &#8211; remains under criminal investigation for allegedly perverting the course of justiceThe IOPC was continuing to investigate a designated detention officer for a &#8220;number of offences&#8221; not subject to the accelerated disciplinary proceedings A separate independent investigation has been launched after a <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c86422y9vxno\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 ehWngw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">serving Met sergeant based at Charing Cross was arrested last week<\/a> on suspicion of perverting the course of justice<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said he wanted officers responsible for &#8220;appalling behaviour&#8221;
