{"id":192942,"date":"2025-10-11T14:14:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-11T14:14:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/192942\/"},"modified":"2025-10-11T14:14:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T14:14:08","slug":"housing-for-newmarkets-horse-racing-apprentices-approved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/192942\/","title":{"rendered":"Housing for Newmarket&#8217;s horse racing apprentices approved"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The plans were supported by the Newmarket Trainers Group and The Jockey Club Estates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Newmarket Trainers Group said there was an &#8220;acute need&#8221; for safe housing for young apprentices who could be &#8220;vulnerable&#8221; due to living away from home for the first time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/pa.eastcambs.gov.uk\/online-applications\/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&amp;keyVal=SWPWH2GGJD200\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">planning documents said, external<\/a>: &#8220;With over 6,500 people employed within the horse racing industry in Newmarket, housing shortages and rising living costs present significant challenges, particularly for young apprentices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The Newmarket Housing Trust has identified the need for affordable, well-located accommodation as an urgent priority, particularly for young people entering the workforce,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Jockey Club Estates added that affordable housing for the racing industry workforce was &#8220;essential if Newmarket is to retain its position as a global centre for racing excellence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Plans for the new site were approved by the council, subject to a series of conditions, including that development of the new student accommodation had to begin within three years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The plans were supported by the Newmarket Trainers Group and The Jockey Club Estates.
